About Zachary Cale, Jacob Augustine, Mount Sharp, A Deer A Horse
Zachary Cale is a songwriter/musician originally hailing from the small town of Enon, Louisiana. His music ranges from lyrically driven acoustic balladry and American primitive inspired guitar instrumentals to cosmic country and folk rock song forms.
Over the span of 8 years he has released five full length albums, Outlander Sessions (2005), Walking Papers (2008), a full band rock record See-Saw (2008) under the name Illuminations, Noise of Welcome (2011) and most recently the critically acclaimed Blue Rider (2013). He has toured extensively throughout the U.S. and in Europe, performing both solo and with a full band.
Upon the release of his sophomore album Walking Papers Cale was described by New Jersey’s, WFMU as a “songwriter’s songwriter” with a writing style comparable to the greats like Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, and Leonard Cohen. In concert his melodically complex guitar playing has been compared to Neil Young and Bert Jansch with nods to pre-war Piedmont and Ragtime players such as Blind Willie McTell and Mississippi John Hurt. In a full band setting Cale has been known to strap on an electric, adopting a style and delivery that flies closer to country-tinged rock songwriters such as Alex Chilton, Ray Davies and Tom Petty.
2011 saw the release of Noise of Welcome, an album that incorporated 60’s inspired folk rock, ambient drone pieces, acoustic ballads, and power pop. He was hailed by Pop Matters as “the best singer-songwriter working today. Period.” That year Cale toured the U.S. with a full band, and in solo setting across Europe including performances at the No Mean City Festival (Glasgow), the Incubate Festival (Netherlands), Festival de Pilar (Spain) and Reeperbahn Festival (Germany).
In 2012 Cale released a new 7? single with Dull Knife Records and embarked on a tour of the UK, performing at the End of the Road Festival and a full European tour sharing dates with The Black Swans and Six Organs of Admittance.
In September of 2013 Cale’s fourth album Blue Rider was released. Praised by Pitchfork, Pop Matters, NY Magazine, American Songwriter and Spin the album features a stripped down acoustic sound implementing country blues tunings adopted from guitar legends Skip James and John Fahey, coupled with Cale’s haunting vocal delivery and enigmatic lyrics. With the addition of ethereal synth lines and electric textures over it’s acoustic foundation Blue Rider exudes an atmosphere that is otherworldly yet traditionally grounded. Upon the album’s release Cale embarked on full U.S. tour supporting the band Crystal Stilts, as well as joining them on second guitar.
Since then Cale has played over 100 shows traversing both the US and the EU. Just recently he has returned from a UK tour sharing the main stage with The War on Drugs and Sharon Van Etten at this year’s Green Man Festival and at End of the Road Festival in Dorset.
2015 will see the release of Zachary Cale’s fifth album entitled Duskland. Set for release on No Quarter Records this coming Autumn.
Zachary Cale resides in New York City.
Jacob Augustine is a folk musician from the northern woods of Maine. While living in California in 2008, he recorded his first full-length solo album 'Harmonia.' The record was included in several year-end top ten lists and its single "High Water" received airplay on hundreds of radio stations across the country. Over the past three years, Jacob has released four albums, ranging from heavily-orchestrated full-band affairs to raw, stripped-down solo recordings. Of his latest record, the Portland Press Herald stated, " 'Bikini Island' is an affecting, arresting release, one of those rare pieces of musical art that stays with you long after the last note has faded and your speakers have grown silent." Jacob has toured the country coast-to-coast many times over the last decade, and shared the stage with acts such as Brown Bird, Timber Timbre, O'Death, Simone Felice, Death Vessel, The Wooden Birds, Dan Mangan, Sean Rowe, Nicole Atkins, Los Lonely Boys, and Field Report. He's hard at work on several new recording projects, with his working quartet of percussionist Peter McLaughlin, bassist Asher Platts and multi-instrumentalist McKay Belk.
"Jacob Augustine’s music is, by this definition, transcendent. His songs are gorgeously tender, raw, full of throaty urgency and wisdom...The pathos and beauty in his music led me to expect a sage of sorts...Someone who perceives the world with unusual accuracy and clarity of vision."
--Maine Magazine
"It's hard not to leave a Jacob Augustine show and feel anything but complete awe and inspiration."
--Hillytown
"Jacob Augustine has one gilded set of pipes. A diamond in the rough..."
--Portland Press Harald
“His songs are timeless yet dwell on mortality. He may be as lost as everyone else, but listen to his music and you may never want to be found."
-- The Deli Magazine
“Possessing the stage presence and integrity of a firebrand preacher (except without all the answers), Augustine commands urgency and attention.”
-- The Portland Phoenix
“My urge to kidnap this man and transport him down the road and out to that old church with just two walls nestled between the trees and gravestones at the cemetery where we buried my dad’s brothers is very high. Very high. Dude could sing about Hannah Montana riding a unicorn and I’d probably still recommend you download his jams…”

Mount Sharp is a band from Brooklyn, NY, playing songs about science, monsters, and bad decisions.
Mount Sharp is a Brooklyn band with Maine origins. Sarah Wood (aka Swood) and Bryan Bruchman (Man In Gray, DraculaZombieUSA, EMSO) bonded over Korean tacos and beer while living in Portland and playing in the bands Mango Floss and Marie Stella, and as things go, the two ended up as roommates in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, working on songs at home and building the foundation for what would become Mount Sharp. Joined by their friend Ryan Zumsen (That Fleeting World) on bass, they got to work crafting songs about science and bad decisions and playing shows in late 2012. Sal Garro (Quiet Loudly, Pow Wow!) joined on drums in late 2015, after stints by Maia Macdonald (Kid in the Attic, Mitten) Jeremiah McVay (Man In Gray, Coyote Eyes).
Super sweet/aggressive vocals, primal/surf-inspired drums, skronky/potentially confusing guitars, and hyper melodic bass is what goes into making these pop gems for you. Hello, Mount Sharp.
A Deer A Horse formed in the appropriately named Sweatshop rehearsal studios of industrial Bushwick, Brooklyn. The three-piece consists of Rebecca Satellite on guitar and vocals, Angela Phillips on bass, and Justin Heaverin on drums.
The group released their debut EP, Patience, in September of 2013. A split 7" is forthcoming.
