About YPHIL International Philharmonic Orchestra

YPHIL International Philharmonic Orchestra: Mendelssohn, Shostakovich & More

Bringing together 100 young musicians representing more than 70 countries, the YPHIL International Philharmonic Orchestra demonstrates how the world can work together to create music and celebrate cultural collaboration. Performing on the same day that their country's presidents attend the United Nations General Assembly meetings, this concert is a truly international affair featuring music from around the world. You'll hear Shostakovich's "Festive Overture" commemorating the Bolshevik Revolution and Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, which features a buoyant final movement played at breakneck speed. The Carnegie Hall concert also includes an excerpt from Michael Vongova's "Piano Concerto for the United Nations" before closing with a piece from Turkish composer Faruk Kanca.
