About "Whistleblower"

Chelsea Manning's Story Told in Provocative Dance Piece

Chelsea Manning rocked the world in 2010 when, still living as "Bradley," she leaked classified information about war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan to WikiLeaks. In 2013, Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison and came out as transgendered. Now this controversial figure's story comes to life in a world premiere dance piece by Obie winner Mark Dendy. Contrasting secrets of state and secrets of biology, "Whistleblower" draws on a variety of dance styles to create an impressionistic fantasia that delves into Manning's psyche at the time of her sentencing. Transcripts from Manning's trial are layered throughout this provocative piece, which was commissioned by Dixon Place.
