About WAR

WAR: Classic Funk Band Comes to New York

"War, what is it good for, absolutely nothing!" -- unless you're listening to the band WAR when they make their way to Manhattan for this gig at B.B. King Blues Club. Fusing funk, rock, Latin rhythms and R&B, the band has transcended racial and cultural barriers, all while producing uplifting music. Founded in Long Beach, the band has been through several changes over the years from the original version with Eric Burdon, through their massive 70s popularity, resurgence after being sampled by hip-hop producers and today's enduring lineup with original member Lonnie Jordan. You've heard a number of WAR's hits -- "Low Rider" in Cheech & Chong's "Up in Smoke", "Spill the Wine" in "Boogie Nights", "Why Can't We Be Friends?" and "War."
