About Vivid Dreams, Mount Sharp, A Deer A Horse, Deal Casino, Julian Fulton
Vivid Dreams is the real life hallucination born out of the consciousness of Nicholas Bush, NYC-based guitarist and songwriter. The pop-deflating, post-modern energy in his debut album was spawned after years marinating in a spicy stew stirred by the likes of Neil Young, The Breeders, Nick Cave and Sonic Youth. Modern fuzz rockers, like Ty Segall, Foxygen and Cate Le Bon, share Vivid Dreams fascination with dynamic shifts, noise, manic solos and perfectly imperfect melodies. Tension is born, given a name, and then released into the ether like a 1950’s radio transmission. Picture yourself engorged with media, fat with content. You’re wrapped in VHS tape and throwing up wires. A button pops up out of your palm asking if you’ll “like” it. Pull the kaleidoscope off your eyes. It was just a dream. Carry on.
Mount Sharp is a band from Brooklyn, NY, playing songs about science, monsters, and bad decisions.
Mount Sharp is a Brooklyn band with Maine origins. Sarah Wood (aka Swood) and Bryan Bruchman (Man In Gray, DraculaZombieUSA, EMSO) bonded over Korean tacos and beer while living in Portland and playing in the bands Mango Floss and Marie Stella, and as things go, the two ended up as roommates in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, working on songs at home and building the foundation for what would become Mount Sharp. Joined by their friend Ryan Zumsen (That Fleeting World) on bass, they got to work crafting songs about science and bad decisions and playing shows in late 2012. Sal Garro (Quiet Loudly, Pow Wow!) joined on drums in late 2015, after stints by Maia Macdonald (Kid in the Attic, Mitten) Jeremiah McVay (Man In Gray, Coyote Eyes).
Super sweet/aggressive vocals, primal/surf-inspired drums, skronky/potentially confusing guitars, and hyper melodic bass is what goes into making these pop gems for you. Hello, Mount Sharp.
Brooklyn-based rock trio A Deer A Horse, led at the helm by Rebecca Satellite and Angela Phillips, have been bubbling up on the scene in recent years with their self-described "urgent rock & roll." Building upon the stark grittiness of their debut EP, Patience, 2015 has seen the release of singles Fighter & Gunpoint leading up to their Gunpoint/Mother Night 7". Honing their live performance at New York staples like Rough Trade, Mercury Lounge, and Pianos with the addition of drummer Dylan Teggart, ADAH has garnered praise for both their stomping stage antics and their charged intensity.
"ADAH shatters the prehistoric notions of living, demanding something present and conscious in the now..." – Impose Magazine
Deal Casino is a call to action. A melodic plea for people to chase their dreams, risk it all and leave nothing on the table. Deal Casino formed around this idea when the four members Joe, Jon, Mike and Jozii, who had been playing in bands together since middle school, dropped out of college and moved to Asbury Park, NJ in 2013. They quickly became a staple of the burgeoning music scene in NJ releasing three EP's with producer Jon Leidersdorff. Cocaine Love EP came about in April of 2013, The Runaways EP followed in December 2013 and most recently Heck EP in December 2014. They appreciate good songwriting but also value the emotion behind the music. They push themselves to make their recordings organic and performances sincere. To capture these ideals, Heck EP was tracked entirely live with minimal production showcasing the true abilities of the band. Deal Casino has no plans to slow down as a relentless performing schedule is booked around additional music videos and EPs planned for 2015.
“Julian Fulton might be New Jersey’s answer to boyish lo-fi charm… [He] croons over bouncing piano lines, feedbacking guitar lines, and self-effacing lyrics that only make his music sound even larger for its tortured honesty.”“ -The Deli Magazine
“Rock and roll may have changed over the decades, but groups like Julian Fulton and the Zombie Gospel out of New Jersey are keeping it alive and well.” -AXS
"The songwriting is melodic, beautiful, and moving." - The Jersey Beat
“Fulton is one of the most genuine songwriters working today.” -You Don’t Know Jersey
“Julian Fulton and the Zombie Gospel are kind of what you want to hear out of a rock ‘n’ roll band nowadays. There’s enough vintage energy in their music to make it classifiable as rock n’ roll, but not enough for it to sound derivative and boring. There’s an eery optimism lurking within the melodic, psyched out jams, a tension I find in a lot of my favorite music.” -The Deli Magazine
“These are the types of sounds — that blend of Spoon, Fleet Foxes and Vampire Weekend — that transcend bands like this past parking lot parties and into the grassy goodness of The Coachella Festival.” -The Trentonian
"I hope to hear much more of Mr. Fulton re-imagining pop music’s past." -The Jersey Beat
