About Victoria Reed

A six year-old Victoria Reed was once found sleeping soundly atop an amplifier on the side of the stage at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Today, at 25, she's just as comfortable on stage as ever, but no longer keeps to the side. Her father Alto Reed, longtime saxophonist of Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band, immersed Victoria into the world of music at a very young age. She began writing her first songs in elementary school and was in the studio by age 14. So it comes as no surprise that Victoria can still be found writing, recording, performing, and currently on the brink of the release her debut album.

Victoria's original music is driven by her stories. Her sound is modern and classic at the same time, her voice both refreshingly unique and yet strangely familiar. Her songs, while deeply autobiographical, are widely relatable and marked by a wisdom that feels well beyond her years. They tell tales of joy, fear, magic, love and existential woe, though even her less sunny narratives are guided by a sincere sense of hopefulness.

While growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Victoria's parents exposed her to the music of Bob Seger and other greats like Carole King, Eric Clapton, and Gordon Lightfoot. A child of the 90's, she fell in love with the music of singer songwriters like Natalie Merchant, Fiona Apple, and Mazzy Star and was inspired to write and sing songs of her own. When Victoria was 14 her family relocated to Miami, FL where she began recording with Grammy Award winning producer/guitar player Tim Mitchell (Shakira). Later, during her time as a philosophy student at DePaul University, she taught herself to play guitar. Within a few months she was performing her original songs around Chicago and recording her own demos in her Wicker Park bedroom.

Upon stumbling across one of her demos online, well-known music manager, Gary Waldman (Robert Randolph, Neal Casal), invited Victoria to NYC to begin making what eventually resulted in her debut record. He organized a cast of musicians including producer/engineer/bass player Jeff Hill (Rufus Wainwright, Joan Baez), pianist Erik Deutsch (Charlie Hunter, Shooter Jennings), pedal steel guitarist Jon Graboff (Ryan Adams, Willie Nelson), drummer Andrew Borger (Ani Defranco, Norah Jones), trumpet player CJ Camerieri (Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens) and Neal Casal (Ryan Adams, Chris Robinson). It didn't take long before Victoria decided it was time to move to Brooklyn to focus solely on music. A year and eleven songs later, the record was produced by Jeff Hill and mixed by Grammy Award winning producer and engineer Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Natalie Merchant) at his studio outside of Los Angeles.

On the road now, Victoria is winning over audiences as the opening act for Citizen Cope on his fall U.S. tour. She has spent the rest of 2014 recording and performing in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, Mexico City and San Francisco. She recently performed with Teddy Thompson at his Everley Brothers Tribute Show in NYC along with an all-star cast of musicians (including Elvis Perkins and Mike Doughty) and has been recording and touring with pianist Erik Deutsch for his forthcoming album. Her debut album, Chariot, will be released in early 2015.
