About Verdi "Requiem"

Verdi "Requiem" at Carnegie Hall

With greater intensity than the most hard-core punk rock song, with more moments of angelic grace than the sweetest church hymn, Verdi's "Requiem" transcends every category and genre, existing in its own realm of perfection. From the moment it was first performed in Milan in 1874, this musical arrangement for four soloists, chorus and orchestra has embodied the very definition of "monumental." Every emotion is fantastically heightened, from the agony of judgment ("Dies Irae") to the balm of consolation ("Agnus Dei"). Now artistic director Jonathan Griffith leads the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra and Distinguished Concerts Singers International along with four talented soloists in the performance of this powerful masterpiece at Carnegie Hall.
