About Valence, You Bred Raptors?
Valence is an up and coming band from New York that exists to push the boundaries of rock and have fun doing it. Fusing metal, progressive rock, and jam, Valence creates a unique sound that is intelligent and energetic, yet still accessible. Their focus is on expressiveness: their music can be at times aggressive or intense, at other times contemplative and introspective. Their compositions traverse different styles while their live show leaves audiences in awe.
Laser Baron, which was released on June 10th, 2014 is Valence’s latest EP based on a story penned by guitarist Geoffrey Schaefer. The listener can follow the story in the music, feeling the struggle between good and evil, and the transportation into an oppressed parallel universe. The band tracked the EP at Carriage House Studios in Stamford, Connecticut and It was mixed and mastered by Mikhail Pivovarov. Illustrator Brian Allen from Flyland Designs, based out of Pennsylvania, created the album artwork. As a follow up to their debut album, Sleepwalker, Valence really ups the ante both musically and sonically with this three-song suite.
Starting with their initial effort, Sleepwalker in 2012, people have consistently remarked on Valence’s eclectic style. Sea of Tranquility summarized this, saying the band doesn’t “go all out progressive metal all the time, instead they also inject some atmospheric prog and tasty jazz-fusion into their sound which makes for a well rounded listening experience” and Alternative Control said "As someone who rarely listens to instrumental music and almost always dislikes prog, Valence won me over.” Valence has been touring the Northeast area, making stops as far south as Philadelphia, PA at the Legendary Dobbs; as far North as Burlington, VT at Nectar’s, and of course our hometown Port Chester, NY at Garcia’s at The Capitol Theatre. So make sure to check out the band that is "rapidly developing into one of the most intelligent and compelling heavy progressive bands out there." (Prog Metal Zone)
Born somewhere between the Neolithic Era and the Industrial Revolution, this band of merry gentleman minstrel through the NYC subways with the Music Under New York Program. They also dropkick Woolly Mammoths and go bearbaiting with Polar Bears onefisted.
The trio comprised of Epileptic Peat on 8-String bass/glockenspiel, Patrick Bradley on drums/glockenspiel and Bryan Wilson on cello aims to raise awareness about Dinosaur cloning research.
