About Unruly Mane

UNRULY MANE is an NYC based folk-duo comprised of songwriters Leea Borst (vocals) and Steven Scarola (vocals, lead guitar). They released heir first EP entitled, 'ROOTS,' in May 2016 and hosted heir first album release show at The Cutting Room, NYC.

Leea and Steve both come from pop-rock group 'La La Lush,' and before that, Steve performed in the well known top-40 band 'Push Play.' Collectively, they've sold out major NYC venues including Irving Plaza, Best Buy Theater, Bowery Ballroom, Mercury Lounge, etc.

Though folk is their main source for inspiration, their sound embodies elements of every music genre and flavors of every culture. "'ROOTS' isn't just about our personal journey, it's about our collective journey as a human race. Each song centers around a compelling story or experience that gripped us to the point where we had to share it. This is an emotional record, there have been a lot of happy tears and hugs along the way. " explains Leea.

"There are no rules with this album. Anything goes and everything is an instrument. We've had a blast finding new, non-traditional sounds," adds Steve Scarola. You'll hear cameos by wooden planks, crank wrenches, wash boards, and foot stomps along with their more consistent sound of acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo, tambourine, cajon (all of which are played by Steve Scarola on the record).

Their live show doesn't disappoint either, as they play to packed out rooms of friends of fans clapping, singing along, and dancing to pulsing kick drum. According to Leea, "This is a participation project. We can't fit 30 background singers on stage so we need all the help we can get."
