About Tuxedo

Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One Team Up for Tuxedo

When a studio executive first heard a recording of Mayer Hawthorne, he was convinced he was listening to some great, now forgotten soul artist of the late '60s -- and "not" one of the industry's most cutting-edge artists. Today, nobody is confused about Hawthorne's immense talent. With his songs popping up on the soundtracks of the biggest movies and TV shows, Hawthorne regularly shares the stage with the likes of Bruno Mars and Foster The People. The Independent of London has gushed that "Mayer Hawthorne is a blue-eyed R&B prodigy" with "all-round instrumental skills to rival Stevie Wonder." His latest project is a collaboration, with fellow Grammy nominee Jake One, called Tuxedo. The project began 10 years ago when Hawthorne started exchanging mixtapes with the Seattle producer, who has worked with the likes of 50 Cent and De La Soul. Now they've got a full album of material, and they're ready to move you live in concert at New York's historic Webster Hall.
