About Trove, Raycee Jones, Rafael Vigilantics
"Those who think rock n' roll is dead, haven't heard us", says TROVE frontman Aryn Powell. Combining the lush soundscape of U2 with the grit and pop-awareness of the Foo Fighters and Silverchair, these Toronto, ON rockers encapsulate the sound with a modern twist. TROVE showcases a nostalgic 90s rock influence at heart, but the relentless, high-energy blitz of their live performance is truly something to experience. Without a doubt, the band's self-titled debut is a versatile, stylized, and hard-hitting introduction to the music world.
The album's 10 tracks are self-produced by Powell (Lead Vocals/Rhythm Guitar). He recorded and mixed the majority of the songs at home between Sept 2012 - July 2013, with some instrumentation tackled at River 16 Studios in Oakville, ON. Reuben Ghose at Mojito Mastering contributed the album's final polish. Lead single, "Ambition", sums up TROVE in almost every aspect with its hard-driving rhythm, strong melodies, and an absolutely massive chorus. Lyrically the song is about desire, perseverance, and passion - a common theme throughout the album. While it was initially recorded as a solo effort, the song arrangements were written with the intention of forming a band. "I've played in a lot of bands over the years, but finding dedicated musicians is definitely a challenge. I figured, if I already had an album recorded, it might be easier to find the right people", says Powell.
Matt "Chewy" Chaitram (Lead Guitar), Alexa Pavao (Bass), and Matt Bellissimo (Drums) all worked with Powell at a music store during this period. He played them snippets of the album on separate occasions and they all responded positively. With a newfound sense optimism and determination, the group began rehearsing shortly after. However, it was once they started showcasing album material at open mic nights and cover gigs that things really began to come together. Over the last year, this led to numerous shows around Southern Ontario, including opening slots for rock legends Stryper, Nektar and Martin Turner's Wishbone Ash.
Raycee Jones sits confidently at the intersection of powerful performance and the next wave of tastemaking culture. As much a skilled vocalist as she is a versatile writer, she's been influenced by many artists including Jill Scott, Jessie Ware, Beyonce & Amy Winehouse. Her music traverses genres, offering hints of soul, electronica, blues and trip hop. Now Brooklyn-based, Raycee is developing her sound with the help of DJ/producer Robert Lux and other collaborators throughout the borough's vibrant artistic community. Whether working with some of the music industry's top writers, or gracing premiere venues with her passionate performances, Raycee Jones is an artist who commands attention.
?Huffington Post called Vigilantics the "Iggy Pop of hip-hop;"blending underground hip-hop with rock reminiscent of the Clash, Rafael Vigilantics is pure energy on stage. New Mexico-born and currently hailing from Los Angeles, Rafael returns to his expanding eastern fan base, bringing his raw and charismatic performances back to NYC for the first time since the debut of his new Prizefighter EP.
