About Transpacific Sound Paradise and the HONK NYC! festival present HONK NYC! in NJ!

Last year’s cathartic HONK! NYC show at Monty Hall is the stuff of legend, declared by many to be the greatest event they’ve ever experienced in the short but storied history of WFMU’s live music space. A half-dozen brass and street bands from around the country and around the world made merry mayhem, honking and squonking and cavorting their way to our hearts, on stage and in the audience. This year, you can be there too! And if you need proof of the fun and craziness guaranteed at a HONK! NYC show at Monty Hall, check out the video of last year’s spectacle.
So don't miss out, join us for HONK! NYC at WFMU’s Monty Hall, an over-the-top international activist brass band
performance spectacle. Marching band music like you've never imagined, plus off-kilter dance routines, twisted baton-twirling, absurdist acrobatics, hysterical histrionics, and high school marching formations from an alternate universe!
Featuring: bands from France and Italy, the return of Chicago's phenomenal Environmental Encroachment, and several more TBA.

More about the HONK! Phenomenon:

Across the country and around the world, a new type of street band is
emerging. Acoustic and mobile, borrowing repertoire and inspiration
from a diverse set of folk music traditions New Orleans second line
brass bands, European Klezmer, Balkan and Romani music, Brazilian Afro
Bloc and Frevo traditions, as well as the passion and spirit of Mardi
Gras and Carnival these "honkers" all share a commitment to several core principles. Metaphorically speaking, they honk their horns for the same reasons motorists honk theirs: to arouse fellow travelers, to warn of danger, to celebrate milestones, and to just plain have fun.
