About Transmit Recordings | Boris, Christian Smith, Ed Pulido
You can hear it in his music: The countless nights of dance floor devastation, the appreciation for the heritage of dance music, the aggressive desire to innovate and do something new. Listen to “Foul Beats,” one of Boris’s first tracks for revered techno label SCI+TEC, and it’s all right there.
There are overnight sensations, and then there’s Boris. Baptized in the booths of New York City, the Russian native learned the craft of DJ-ing in front of the most demanding crowds in the world, developing a deep sense of what moves a packed floor in a moment, an hour, or a full night-to-morning extended session. From TKYEAR to today, he’s been a resident at every major New York nightclub (including Pacha, Crobar, and Roxy), and received award nominations for his service (Club World Awards, America’s Best DJ), not to mention the adoration of dedicated fans: His “BELIEVE” brand is based on their faith in him. He’s also released several compilations on local label Nervous; timeless capsules of the sounds of the city. (He’s set to release a new album on Nervous this March.)
But New York is just the beginning of the story. Boris is a resident at Space (Miami), a regular at BPM Festival (Mexico) and Wet Republic (Las Vegas), and has brought his particular set of skills to Japan, Korea, and Ibiza. His annual pool party Get Wet is a staple of Miami Music Week.
Now, Boris is parlaying all that international intelligence into new productions that represent a fresh musical direction. New Generation, his aptly named debut EP on SCI+TEC (the venerable underground label of legendary artist Dubfire), is deep techno with an energetic BPM: One cut of undeniable funk (“Generate”) and one of undeniable filth (“Foul Beats”), each meant to take the night to the next level. It follows up “Give Yourself” on Roger Sanchez’s Stealth, an electro-house nugget with a walloping kick drum and epic double breakdown. These are the first in a stream of new work melding harder tech sounds with dance floor dynamics.
Swedish citizen, Christian Smith spent the late 80's years in Germany soaking up the early house and techno sound of Sven Vath. Now based in Sao Paulo, he has been championing his funky mix of house and soulful techno for more than a decade, playing across Asia, North & South America, and Europe, plus regular slots at festivals like UK's Creamfields, Holland's Dancevalley, Spain's Monegros and Belgium's I Love Techno. His music released on a variety of top labels like Renaissance; Adam Beyer's Drumcode, Josh Wink's Ovum, 100% Pure, John Digweed's Bedrock, and his very own Tronic, only proves his flexibility in the studio. Similarly on the decks, Christian's set is a cauldron of chunky grooves with loads of energy.
Ed Pulido has established himself as a crowd favorite, highly requested and a respected name in the DJ scene in New York City. His sets are full of energy with bass-driven, heavy-hitting tech house and chunky techno. Pulido has a unique sound where he combines elements of Tech House, Techno, Minimal, and even Tribal House to craft his own uplifting and energetic sound. He blends sounds and rhythms with tech elements, warm percussion, and solid bass lines through his own collection of loops, samples and acapellas.
Ed has performed internationally numerous times in Colombia playing in the Summer Festival parties in Cartagena and later at Lago Calima's Ultra Lake Festival. He's also played in Medellin at La Kasa, Carnival and Angels. Back in the US, Ed played at all of the important rooms and festivals in NYC, including the main rooms at Pacha NY, Cielo NY, District 36, GLO Nightclub, Phuket NY, Webster Hall, Ravel Rooftop, Z Hotel, System Danceclub, Neptunes Beach Club, Dream (Hamptons), Black & White Festival plus many more venues.
Outside of New York City, Ed constantly plays in New Jersey and in Connecticut. He's also played in Orlando, Florida and at the Winter Music Conference in Miami every year since 2009 along with the biggest names in the industry.
Ed has shared the stage two times with techno legend Speedy J and Ed has played the closing set for techno rising star Gary Beck at District 36. Ed has also shared the stage with Chus & Ceballos, DJ Boris, Victor Calderone, Christian Smith, Speedy J, Gary Beck, Steve Lawler, Carlos Lio, Calvin Harris, Deadmau5, Steve Angello, Afrojack, Funkagenda, Richie Santana & Peter Bailey aka Mindcontrol, Saeed Younan, DJ Vibe, Oscar G, Hector Couto, Cristian Arango, Chriss Vargas, Patrick M, Joy Kitikonti, Alex Young, Kristian Klein, Jonathan Peters, Cevin Fisher, Ralph Falcon, plus many many more.
