About Tiga / Waze & Odyssey / Pedro Paez
The origins of Montreal born DJ-producer-incipient Teutonic legend Tiga lie to the vague and troubling East, where he was weaned on the nefarious milk of the notorious 1980s Indian club scene.
2003 was the year that Tiga released his mix CD on !K7 for their DJ Kicks series. His take on Nelly’s “Hot in Herre”, released for the DJ Kicks compilation, became a huge success and resulted in it being licensed in the UK by Skint, as well as the GAS region by Warner Music. The video, which can be seen at http://www.eyeballnyc.com/tiga, features a sardonic view of the hip-hop world through some clever puppet wizardry from Tiga’s brother, Thomas (aka Lord of the Marionette).
Tiga has also lent his vocals to Richard X’s debut album on a track titled “You (Better Let Me Love You X 4) Tonight”. Most recently, Tiga has remixed Alex Kidd’s “Come With Me”, Neon Judgement’s “TV Treated”, Scissor Sister’s cover of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”, Junior Jack (feat. Robert Smith)’s “Da Hype”, and Peaches’ “Shake Yer Dix”. Already gaining massive rotation amongst club DJs, Tiga’s latest single, “Pleasure from the Bass” is being released on the Belgian imprint PIAS. His first full-length original artist album is due within the year.
Having the ability to channel the past into the present day while remaining contemporary and relevant is no mean feat. To then take one of RnB's most seminal songs and turn it into a modern-day classic is quite possibly even more of an outstanding achievement. Waze & Odyssey have not only managed to tick both of those accomplishments off their bucket list, but they have also notched up a seriously impressive list of accolades in the short time they've been together. All the while they continue to press on with their unerring campaign to keep making house music of the highest calibre, traveling the globe performing dynamic DJ sets and generally being one of the most exciting acts to emerge from the electronic music world for quite some time.
It began with a meeting at the end of 2011 and has evolved into a partnership based on classic house music, ingenuity, innovation and creating those unforgettable moments of joy, euphoria and pure, unadulterated fun. It's been just over two years since that first meeting and, in that time, Waze & Odyssey have performed at some of the world's most influential club spaces; Panorama Bar (Berlin), fabric (London), Warehouse Project (Manchester), Chibuku (Liverpool), Monarch (San Fran), Arma 17 (Moscow) and many more.
In tandem with their globetrotting DJ schedule, they have also been responsible for a series of releases that have established them as a force to be reckoned with. Influential labels such as Wolf Music, Lets Play House, Tsuba and Throne of Blood have signed their tracks, as well as the duo releasing music via their own W&O Street Tracks label. Meanwhile their talents have also been employed to remix acts such as Disclosure, Duke Dumont and T.E.E.D.
