"The Pirates of Penzance": Screened in HD

Multiple Oscar nominee Mike Leigh ("Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake") is the man behind the English National Opera's stylishly-mounted production of "The Pirates of Penzance", screening in HD at Symphony Space. Packed with Gilbert and Sullivan's witty fast-paced banter and some of the duo's most engaging tunes -- including the immortal "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General" -- this seafaring operetta revolves around a handsome young pirate's apprentice named Frederic. Expecting to be released from servitude on his 21st birthday, he meets and falls in love with the lovely young Mabel, but the poor lad soon discovers that, due to a leap-year technicality, another 60 years or so must pass before he's free.
