About The Love Supreme, Bosley

From Soul and Motown, to Rhythm & Blues and Rock ‘n Roll, The Love Supreme covers terrain many music operations only dream of, and they do it with incredible heart, skill, and frenetic energy. The unmatched 12-piece got their start covering Diana Ross hits, starring front man, Tim Pioppo, in drag as “Guyanna Ross,” but rapidly expanded into a fully-formed force of soul, psych, and garage rock, beloved by Brooklynites of all creeds. Love Supreme audiences are known for two things: packing rooms and dancing their asses off as soon as Tim Pioppo and The Love Supreme hit the stage.

The only thing as unparalleled as The Love Supreme’s live performance is the band’s incredible versatility. In the same month, The Love Supreme can step into the big band & soul universe and bring the house down, bring midnight dance crowds to their knees in massive, underground Brooklyn warehouses, pack notorious NYC rock venues, and provide perfectly curated musical backdrops for weddings and gatherings. Regardless of the context or set content, The Love Supreme can be counted on for especially tight grooves, with a rhythm section that reliably hits the pocket and stays there, providing a grooving framework clean enough for all of the work the seasoned horns section and guitars lay slickly into the mix.

What sets The Love Supreme apart is Pioppo and his prolific crew’s dense repertoire of original songs. The Love Supreme’s performances call to mind the legendary howls of Otis Redding, the sweaty dance floor funk of James Brown, and the pioneering, dirty rock n' roll charm of Neil Young. Plenty of artists emulate the flashy, elaborate stage traditions of Motown and aim for the almost-spiritual side of the communal Soul vibe, but The Love Supreme has forged something entirely its own, integrating the classics with a fresh take on contemporary tunes in a way that blends genres like psychedelic rock, big band, garage, and soul into a rockin amalgam of good feels and highly danceable tracks.

The Love Supreme not only brings a full horns section and fully-choreographed dance troupe to its live performances, but a cult following of New Yorkers who have made a habit of filling rooms with fanatical dancing and ecstatic enthusiasm for the band’s soulful dance attack. The Love Supreme is the most engaging, unforgettable live show you'll find anywhere this side of 1968, and all are welcome.

Grinding down the soles of endless pairs of dancing shoes somewhere between Saturday night and Sunday morning, Bosley cut his teeth in Baltimore's sultry DIY dance halls.
