The Essex

The Essex, Brooklyn’s finest horn-driven power funk ensemble, had its genesis in the summer of 2010. Born out of weekly late-night jam sessions, improvisations became tunes and four guys became eight, brought together by their collective love of funk and unified vision to hit people in their soul and make them sweat on the dance floor. The Essex is all about the mix of power and groove—the penetrating immediacy of their four-part horn lines delivered with raw rock intensity, and jazz-inspired improvisations whirling and weaving around swaggering hip-hop beats and deep funk.
