About The Billy Strayhorn Orchestra

Swinging With Billy Strayhorn's Big Band

Saxophonist Michael Hashim, who's famed for his recordings of the Strayhorn catalog, leads a 15-piece big band in a salute to the legendary jazz composer, whose long and fruitful collaboration with bandleader Duke Ellington produced standards like "Lush Life," "Something to Live For," "Chelsea Bridge" and "Raincheck." But you'll also hear a newer Strayhorn version of "Take the A Train" and even some rarely-heard pieces by the late genius, including "Swing Dance," "Pentonsilic" and "Cashmere Cutie." This performance at Morristown's Mayo Performing Arts Center is co-sponsored by the New Jersey Jazz Society.
