About Sundays in The Panther Room | Kornel Kovacs/ Alejandro Sab

Behind Szikra - Kornél Kovács' brand new insta-anthem and the latest release on his own Studio Barnhus label - lies half a lifetime's dedication to dance music, club culture and straight up hustling. Kornél was born in Sweden, grew up listening to his Hungarian parents' Kraftwerk tapes while taking drum, piano and singing classes, fell in love with jungle at the age of 10 and started djing professionally three years later.

After realizing there were no girls in Stockholm's drum'n'bass clubs he became the youngest ever former jungle dj in Scandinavia by the age of 14. A bit later, while in high school, he discovered drugs and mp3s, promptly taking up djing again. Thanks to his residency at local hotspot Paradise, rumours of a 20-year old dj brutally mixing new techno with old house and cheap rave classics were soon spreading.

After Paradise closed shop in 2006, Kornél started throwing parties in his hometown, playing at clubs and festivals all around Sweden as well as in Tokyo, Mexico City, New York, London, Barcelona, Berlin and wherenot. He began hosting the highly influental P3 Dans show on Swedish national radio, partook in the 2008 Red Bull Music Academy and played a smashing peak time set for a packed Sónar By Day stage in 2009.

Then came his crown achievement in life: Starting the record label/dj trio/love thang Studio Barnhus together with Axel Boman and Petter Nordkvist. Szikra is Kornél's third Barnhus release, following the underground hits Baby Step and Down Since '92. Recent work includes remixes for Tevo Howard, Jenny Wilson and Let's Play House, collaborations with HNNY on the Puss label and gigs at Panorama Bar, Fabric, Trouw and Space (Ibiza).
