About Stephen Babcock

Born and raised in New Hartford, New York and now residing in New York City, Stephen began playing guitar at the age of 15 after hearing John Mayer's "Room For Squares." Since then, he has continued to craft his skills as a singer-songwriter; recording and performing a catalog of original music, including two EPs and one full-length LP. Stephen's new album titled "Said & Done" was released on February 27, 2016. The new LP draws on inspiration from his time in the southern United States as well as pop and Americana styles.

Stephen began his musical career as a drummer, and his transition to a songwriter has weaved a percussive element into his guitar playing and singing. Since humble beginnings as a solo act around Central New York, Stephen has since finely tuned the performance and arrangement of his songs to compliment both bold full band shows and intimate acoustic events. Stephen's live shows distinctly blend singer-songwriter charm and comedic wit, leaving listeners wanting more. Encore Magazine says, "Whether his lyrics flourish with optimism or heartache, Stephen Babcock's music infuses the listener with an all-encompassing positive feeling".

With influences ranging from John Mayer to Otis Redding, Stephen has a sound that is relatable and enjoyable to all fans of pop music. Critics agree, stating that "His youthful vocals parallel those of Jason Mraz, as does the cadence of his songs" (Encore Magazine).

Stephen's debut album, entitled "Dreams, Schemes & Childhood Memories," was released on August 31, 2011. It was followed shortly after by the EP "Lost," released July 19, 2013. Stephen went on a touring frenzy during that period, playing up and down the east coast of the US as well as the United Kingdom and hitting numerous singer-songwriter festivals.

Stephen's EP, "Wishful Thinking," was written and recorded upon returning home from touring and was released in May 2014. After taking the following winter to write and record, Stephen took another full tour of the southern US in the summer of 2015. Now with his new album "Said & Done" ready for release, things are on the rise. Already drawing comparisons to Brett Dennen, Dawes, and John Mayer, the album is sure to be an indie pop favorite in 2016.
