About Stacy Sullivan “On the Air: Songs for Marian McPartland”

"On the Air,” pays tribute to Marian McPartland, one of the grand dames of jazz whose work as performer and composer are rivaled only by her advocacy of the art form. As the original host of "Piano Jazz," she led the longest running cultural program in the history of National Public Radio, interviewing and performing with the giants of 20th century jazz. Featuring pianist and "Piano Jazz" host Jon Weber, bassist Steve Doyle, and guitarist Troy Fannin, "On the Air" weaves storytelling and performances of some of the most beloved works from the American Songbook into a fascinating portrait of an Englishwoman who became an American jazz tastemaker. Featuring music of Duke Ellington, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim, Willie Nelson, and, of course, Marian herself.

“Star Stacy Sullivan is a thoughtful and subtle singer, just as the woman she honors, Marian McPartland, was the most subtle and thoughtful of pianists, composers and radio hosts. Just as the late McPartland represented an outpost of sanity and tranquility in a medium historically dominated by shock jocks and pseudo-scholars, Ms. Sullivan is neither fussy nor formal nor, at the other extreme, falsely folksy. “On the Air” is a very heartfelt and thoroughly realized project.” Will Friedwald, The Wall Street Journal
