About "Spring Thing"

John Giorno, David Grubbs & More at The Poetry Project Fundraiser "Spring Thing"

The Poetry Project hosts its annual fundraiser "Spring Thing", featuring readings and performances by envelope-pushing New York artists. Poet and visual artist John Giorno has collaborated with visionaries like Andy Warhol, William Burroughs, Patti Smith, and Robert Rauschenberg, to name a select few. He's penned 10 books, produced dozens of multimedia recordings on his label Giorno Poetry Systems and founded the AIDS Treatment Project. Joining Giorno for this evening of poetic expression is influential rocker David Grubbs (Gastr del Sol, Squirrel Bait), the author of "Records Ruin the Landscape: John Cage, the Sixties, and Sound Recording". You'll also hear from writer, author and filmmaker Dia Felix, as well as the multi-talented Miguel Gutierrez, a 2010 Guggenheim Fellow in choreography, whose work has been presented by BAM's Next Wave, Walker Art Center and many others. The "Spring Thing" kicks off at Sanctuary of St. Mark's Church and wraps with a post-performance reception.
