About Scarlet Sails, Birdeatsbaby
What happens when a young musical rebel from a strict Russian background runs away to the Big Apple and meets the quintessential American drummer? Scarlet Sails - An emotion-infused sound that spans continents and cultures.
Brian Viglione, who previously lent his drumming talents to The Dresden Dolls, Nine Inch Nails, and Violent Femmes, has found the perfect partner, musically and romantically, in his wife Olya when they met in 2013 at Bowery Electric in NYC. Brian says that Olya???s songwriting and powerful voice, "reflect courage, introspection and the fight to discover oneself." This courage and talent is no-doubt due to her classical piano training, her early life in Moscow, and strong will to make it in the rock world, despite numerous obstacles like moving to New York City with nothing but a backpack at 20 years old.
Combine Olya's passion and strong songwriting, with Brian???s avant-garde background and new additions of Mark Christopher Kohut (Michael T. & The Vanities, The Killing Floor) on guitar and Jesse Krakow (Shudder to Think, Nona & Hendryx) on bass, and the result is an evocative, all-out musical romp through raw grooves, rock attitude, and savvy, personal storytelling.
In midsummer 2016, they released the video for their original song, ???I???ll Be There???, followed by a video for ???Wonder Why," shot on location at the house where Bob Dylan lived and recorded Bringing It All Back Home. Though new to touring as a band, Scarlet Sails completed their first national tour with Nina Diaz of Girl in Coma this past summer, and recently had their successful Moscow debut on New Year???s Eve.
The band spent 3 months making their first full length record, "Future from the Past," which was recorded at Atlantic Sound Studios in Brooklyn by Diko Shoturma, mixed by Grammy-winning engineer Nic Hard, and mastered by the legendary Greg Calbi, and is described as, "...if Queen and Alice Cooper remade Radiohead's OK Computer." The album incorporates a wild and disparate blend of styles and instrumentation. While maintaining a firm grasp on its rock sound, the incorporation of cellos, Moog Synthesizers, and a horn section totally transcend your everyday listening experience into something extraordinary.
