About "Scared Skinny"

"Scared Skinny": Comedian Mary Dimino's Award-Winning Solo Show

Growing up fat, funny and afraid in an Italian family from Queens ain't for the faint of heart ... but it sure did make for some great comedy. In "Scared Skinny", stand-up comedian Mary Dimino paints a picture of what it was like to grow up "flabby, funny and afraid" in her Italian-American family. Embodying 14 different characters -- including her grandma, ex-boyfriends and bad diets -- Dimino details her colorful youth and quest to lose 115 pounds in a show she's dubbed her "one (hundred pound lighter) woman show." Recalling frank and funny tales of "fat kids playing with Ouija boards" and being bigger than Santa in a childhood snapshot, "Scared Skinny" earned the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival's Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Solo Show. Now you can catch this hilarious production at 13th Street Repertory Company.
