About Running late, Mamalama and Anna Winthrop

We are Running Late. A few years ago, three of us toyed with the idea of forming a band. We started out by playing cover songs at back yard parties. When our bassist and Cello player teamed up with the rest of us, Running Late was formed. We decided to take a more serious approach to our music two years ago and began writing original songs. We have worked hard through the obstacles presented to each of us, not the least of which being we all attend college at different schools. These past few years have been a huge surprise for all of us. We have rocked crowds at venues which include Starland Ballroom and The Stone Pony while headlining frequently everywhere else. We take pride in creating a sound that is truly something special and are often regarded as the most original band in the NJ underground scene.

Mamalama is an uncommon orchestration of harp and ethereal voice, cello, violin, hammered dulcimer, upright bass, piano, french horn, and choral voices. A listening experience that has been described as "like walking into a dream." Mamalama seamlessly weaves together world music (Native American, Middle Eastern, Celtic), classical minimalism, early/sacred/renaissance, psychedelia, indie-chamber music, and vivid lyrical mysticism. Listeners often recall the music of Philip Glass and Kate Bush, with undertones of Hildegard of Bingen and early polyphonic music.
Mamalama is comprised of Elizabeth Clark on Harp, Piano and Vocals; Henry Lowengard on Hammer Dulcimer, Glockenspiel, Tenor Recorder, Melodica, and Vocals; Rusty Boris on Bass and Vocals; Eric Ortner on Violin, French Horn, and Vocals; Annie Roland on Vocals and Octave Mandolin; Cornelia Logan on Cello and Vocals.

Anna has performed throughout the United States and Europe as an actress, singer and dancer, beginning her career at the tender age of 12. She studied classical voice at the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory before making a life for herself in the New York theater scene, and most recently has turned to composition as an exploration of her eclectic musical background in the jazz, classical, music theater and pop worlds. She is prized for her versatility, deep lyricism and storytelling abilities, and for creating a unique sound within the songwriter world. In 2014 Anna formed a collaboration with the cellist Kirin McElwain, an equally versatile musician who hails from the classical world but has performed with Boyz ll Men, John Vanderslice, The Fleeting Ends, visual artist Anamaya Farthing-Kohl and pianist Judith Gordon.
