About Ray Angry A.K.A. Mister Goldfinger
Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Ray Angry took to the piano at nine years old. After high school, he moved onto Howard University, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music. Immersing himself in the Washington, D.C. music scene, Angry became acquainted with Shai and embarked on his first international tour. While still in D.C., Angry collaborated with Raheem DeVaughn, Yolanda Adams and Richard Smallwood.
In 2001, Angry moved to New York City and collaborated with Meshell NDegeocello and Ahmir Thompson (?uestLove) on various separate projects. By also performing with The Real Live Show, Angry became a regular on the New York hip-hop scene. Soon, he began his recording career by appearing on Joss Stone’s album Mind, Body & Soul.
Since then, he has recorded with Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Talib Kweli, Lauryn Hill, Donnie Osmond, Edwin Hawkins and Peter Gallagher, among others. More recently, Angry recorded with The Roots, Rick Ross, The Game, Elvis Costello, Marsha Ambrosius, Wayne Brady, Chris Dave, Q-Tip and Jaheim while also embarking on projects with producers Rockwilder and 7. Angry has written songs for Christina Aguilera and Melanie Fiona plus has served as the music director for Joss Stone, Kelis and Lauryn Hill.
Artists with whom Angry has collaborated on upcoming releases include Sean P.Diddy Combs, Queen Latifah, Joss Stone, Dionne Warwick, Esperanza Spalding and Ayo. His compositions can also be heard in the upcoming film scores for Queen Latifah’s TV Show Single Ladies on VH-1, Cookout II and City Lax, on the Amy Schumer show and in Chris Rock's Top Five movie.
In addition to his studio work, Ray Angry performs live regularly in New York and on tour. He has toured internationally with Whitney Houston, Ayo, Esperanza Spalding, D’Angelo, Lauryn Hill, The Roots. He has performed with countless well-known musicians such as Sting, John Legend, Jeff Beck, QTip, George Benson, Jennifer Hudson, Macy Gray, Trey Songz and Hi Tek, among others. Angry frequently appears with and composes for The Roots on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.
Angry has composed and performed in both jazz and classical genres as well with artists such as Dr. Raymond Jackson, Wynton Marsalis, Benny Golson, Roy Hargrove and Ralph Peterson, among others.
Ray Angry has recently launched his own band, Council of Goldfinger, featured on the Supreme Sonacy Vol. 1 album, to be released in July 2015 on Revive Music/Blue Note Records.
