About Rage of Armageddon 3 Fest: Razor, Blood Feast, Resistance, Anvil Bitch, Darkside NYC, Sweet Magma

A rare live performance from one of the most creative and "out there" NYHC bands. First Philly show since the mid '90s.

Like most original artists, Sweet Magma resist the labeling of their music as a specific genre or sub-genre. They see themselves more truly, as just three guys playing rock-'n'-roll music. Being seasoned musicians with diverse musical experiences each member brings his own distinct talent to the subterranean caldera that spews forth what can only be Sweet Magma. Matt O'Neill is the Blues factor brining the classic rock influence to the band. A professional guitar instructor himself, his guitar becomes an extension of his body during the band's jams. And Sweet Magma is definitely a jam band. And that's where Billy Cakes comes in: always challenging the other two with his unique beats and complex odd-timed drum patterns but also giving the music a smooth groove and even a jazzy swing. After all, they call him Billy Cakes because "his beats are fat and sweet and his rolls are filling." But before things can spin out of control, Nick Massios brings Heavy Metal grounding as the back-to-basics-nuthin-fancy-straight-up Rock force of the band. As the bassist/vocalist and main songwriter he helps forge the white-hot Sweet Magma into a solid ball of Rock just like the pyrosonic flows solidify after each explosion. Sweet Magma . . . it's flowing toward a village near you .
