About Queens Jazz Orchestra

Jazz Orchestra Tribute to Tony Bennett & Ella Fitzgerald

Join the Queens Jazz Orchestra as they perform a musical homage to two titans of jazz: Tony Bennett and Ella Fitzgerald. Bennett, who's scored success in multiple genres, has sung and recorded with many jazz luminaries, among them Count Basie and Art Blakey. Fitzgerald, often referred to as the Queen of Jazz, was renowned for her inventive scatting technique and sang on some of the most influential jazz recordings of all time. Both singers are also important parts of Queens musical history: Bennett was born and raised in Astoria, where he founded a performing arts high school, the Frank Sinatra School of the Arts, while Fitzgerald was a longtime resident of the borough. This musical tribute at Flushing Town Hall is led by Music Director and Conductor Jimmy Heath. An accomplished jazz musician in his own right, Heath has played with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis and John Coltrane.
