About PILL, Plums, Bluejay, Nail Polish
PILL is an expression of contempt for rock formalism, yet still within the "rules" of rock. Painterly abstraction in 4/4 time---Narratives of the realities of inequality. PILL is in an open relationship with Expressionism, and purity reigns, making a person feel enthusiastically empathetic to a woman without overtly telling them how and why to be a feminist.
"The fey that Plums trade in is so delightfully radiating it’s almost aggresive in its sweetness. Almost. These Bostonians, chums since high school, with a couple scrambling through college still, are too busy flapping their metaphorical pixie wings through a sunny dawn made of early Aztec Camera demos to deal with anything other than crafting unapologetically innocent guitar pop. That said, they have a definitive grasp on lo-fi jangle recording smarts, and the ending repeating coda and tape hiss fade hint at a future of tweaks made to their twee." - CMJ
It's been five years since this whole thing started. Brad and Zach came out shredding raw knowledge – pure form. Somewhere between a bedroom and basement Matt snuck in – sank his teeth. We holed up for the better part of year. We spent all of our money. We made a record. We've filled rooms and we've emptied them. We've had owners dump beer on us in a good way and played birthday parties to no one. We didn't outdo ourselves, we simply outgrew ourselves. In the pursuit of infinite good vibes we struck oil. Ross is here now and he is chill – he provides the waves. For better or worse, we have never done anything right. We wrote songs in Excel, never did the dishes, disregarded pop-filters and sonic excellence – but that's OK. That's what it took. Marvel Fortune is our record and no one else's.
Matt is rich. He is the millionaire. Brad is smart. He is from the brain. Ross is real. He rises from the ocean. Zach has enormous purple wings. He is the beast-master. We prefer colorful spreadsheets and the idea of a Simmons kit. BLUEJAY is a good reason to do what we love. We are ready for you. We are for hire.
If we had a choice, we would put MIDI pickups in everything.
