About Pill

"Are you keeping my feelings and my body safe?" Veronica Torres, speak-singer/screamer in Brooklyn band Pill, cranks open the amazingly-titled "Misty Eyed Porno Reader" with mantric recitations of this question. From the tone of her voice—expressive, knowing, taunting—no one is going to hurt her. Pill sound like they've swallowed up their fair share of the other PiL's arty post-punk experimentalism in equal doses with the '90s punk feminism that followed in its wake. As Torres drains out her words over avant-jazz sax skronk, squalling guitars, and some pretty hypnotic drumming, you could imagine the droning "Misty Eyed Porno Reader" fitting squarely between God Is My Co-Pilot and Jad Fair on some lost Kill Rock Stars comp.
