About NY Lights

NY lights are a new retro-pop-rock inspired group out of Huntington, New York. The band was formed in Sydney, Australia by multi-platinum record producer Philip A. Jimenez and bassist Kathryn Froggatt. The two met in Sydney when Philip was touring the world in the early 2000’s as a member of the famed power pop outfit Wheatus. Kathryn joined as a touring member of the band soon after. Philip’s eclectic production flourishes can be heard throughout Wheatus’ melodic hook driven debut record ‘Teenage Dirtbag’.
After worldwide chart topping success, Philip went on to produce, write and play for many New York indie-rock bands. It wasn’t until he and Kathryn found themselves living a life of glorious exile in a beautiful Australian beach town, due to an immigration debacle, that the idea of NY lights was conceived.
Combining lyric driven melodic pop song writing with their love of Beatles, Dylan, Nilsson and Velvet Underground-esque production qualities, NY lights is a culmination of all that the Jimenez’s love about music. Now settled in Huntington, New York, the band has been joined by brothers Dan and Tom Batista on guitars and drums respectively, and Andrew Stein on pianos and organs. Each new member has added a new energy and excitement to the project making their live show a must see event.
The infectious videos for their singles “The Guy” and “Everyone is Saying” have been connecting with and expanding their fanbase. “Everyone is Saying” has been at the top of the charts on indiemusictv for weeks and sets the tone for the new album the band are busy recording in their studio in Huntington. As NY lights prepare for the May 15th release of their LP “Day’s Passed In Exile”, they are playing shows in Brooklyn, Manhattan, the tri-state area, and gearing up for summer festivals.
