About Newtown Anniversary Party
Cousin Earth (formerly Known as Ukulelien) is a Brooklyn-based progressive Ukulele band. With both an original repertoire and a vast array of covers, Cousin Earth spans a wide range of musical styles bringing both a sense of playfulness and technical ability to the music many people know and love. From bluegrass to electronica, this band will take any song and uke-i-fy it.
In less than 2 years, Cousin Earth has earned many achievements including 2 CMJ performances, 140,000+ YouTube views, 1000+ YouTube subscribers, 1200+ Facebook likes, and positive reviews from Sensible Reason and OurVinyl. Other notable accolades for the band include a self-booked charity tour affiliated with the American Cancer Society's "Relay for Life", musical collaborations with the "Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Fusion" band Consider the Source, and public recognition by Andy McKee, whose original song "Drifting" was covered by Cousin Earth. "Drifting" remains the most popular Ukulelien YouTube video with over 32,000 views, and it is continuously climbing. The band has released many videos and audio tracks in 2014, helping them gain fans, friends, and subscribers each and every day.
Cousin Earth is comprised of 5 members, including Joey Calfa (Ukulele/Vocals), Terry Brennan (Vocals/Percussion/Sax), Corey J. Feldman (Ukulele Bass aka U-Bass/Vocals/Trumpet), Tara Lawton (Vocals/Melodica/Percussion), and Nate Searing (Drums/Vocals).
As far as rock bands go, Cousin Earth may not be as loud or as physically large, but they will definitely surprise audiences by finding uncharted musical territory with their tiny instruments. They can't help but make you smile and sing along.
Kalen Lister is a NY based singer-songwriter and leader of the moody rock band, Kalen & The Sky Thieves. She and The Sky Thieves just released a full length LP on Ropeadope Records in the fall and and have been transversing the Northeast for the Bluebird tour. As a solo artist, she's played coast to coast channeling the adventurousness, theatrics, and dynamics of her ensemble based projects into a distinct personal aesthetic that's groove based but also ambient and boldly emotional. "…A singer-songwriter with real character." says Relix Magazine, "Her voice makes your heart race," says What Weekly. At this special solo show, Kalen will be joined by pandeiro expert, Sergio Krakowski, and classical viola-player, Chris Williams, in addition to Eleanor Dubinsky.
