About New York Electric Piano

NEW YORK ELECTRIC PIANO is celebrating the release this fall of their sixth studio album, Black Hole in One, a collection of edgy instrumentals and songs dealing with climate, rebirth, the moon, Crazy Horse, and wounded warriors. Pianist Pat Daugherty and drummer Aaron Comess, from the Spin Doctors, are joined for the first time by electric bassist Richard Hammond as the band moves into the heavier groove atmosphere of the black hole. NYEP’s last record, a double CD work called Keys To The City, spent a month in the top ten of the CMJ’s Jazz Chart and received accolades from Pop Matters, Sea of Tranquility, JazzTimes, Drumhead, and All About Jazz. The N.Y. Times has called front man Daugherty “an imposing presence”. Members of the band have recorded and performed with Ornette Coleman, Joan Osborne, Bono and the Edge, Roswell Rudd, and Snoop Dogg among others. The band is built around the sound of the classic Fender Rhodes piano and the idea that anything can happen inside or outside the music.
