About Miracle Sweepstakes, Lakewhales, Sister James, Chris Paine & the Lettertrain

Miracle Sweepstakes filter the classic melodies of their Boomer parents’ record collections through the last 30-odd years of challenging, weirdo guitar music. Freeform meltdowns give way to ascendant pop choruses, and gnarled instrumentals happen upon sunny vocal harmonies throughout their 2016 debut Turn Heel. The album received praise from Stereogum, the Village Voice, and GoldFlakePaint, to name a few, and laid the blueprint for the band’s idiosyncratic brand of rock, best described as “non sequitur pop.”

The group spent the year-and-change since playing around New York in all walks of music venue: local institutions Cake Shop and Palisades (RIP); newer haunts Sunnyvale and Our Wicked Lady; DIY spots like Pet Rescue and even a hydroponic garden center. Along the way, they opened for Television guitarist Richard Lloyd, and embarked on their first tour across the midwestern United States.

Miracle Sweepstakes are currently putting the finishing touches on their second full-length album, and look forward to sharing their music on stages and algorithm-driven streaming services in the new year.

Psychedlic nauti-pop polluted by a North Sea motorik belching diesel in its wake... A drowned bossa nova that was resuscitated on the beach and came back changed... Surf rock hopelessly making peace with its gods while facing a crashing wall of ocean...

Sister James is a four-piece indie rock band comprised of members from four different Brooklyn acts, joining together to leave their own unique mark on the Northeastern rock scene. Songwriters Quinn McGovern (Active Bird Community) and Ben Carbone (Lizard Pizza) offer distinct yet cohesive moods driven by the almighty Daniel Sweeney (Ghost King) and Pete "Low End" Spengeman (God Tiny). Sister James leaves new audiences wanting to hear more of their uniquely dynamic music.

Some people call it 'power pop', 'pop rock', or 'alt rock’ but whatever it is, it's what has been flowing in their veins since they can remember. Growing up in the suburbs of Boston and moving to NYC in 2012, Chris spent two years in the mod rock scene where he met drummer and Lettertrain collaborator, Julien Budrino. Together, they recruited Anthony Bernier and Martin Stubbs which resulted in a unique blend of all of their musical backgrounds into what can only be labeled as 'pure rock n' roll'.
