About Meridian Lights, Joseph King
Meridian Lights is the song writing team of vocalist Bradley Valentin and guitarist Yohimbe Sampson. They have completed an album called "Atlantic". The album is named after Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue where the duo wrote the album. The album features bass player Jean Shepheard and drummer Drew McClean.
Bradley and Yohimbe both grew up with heavy musical and art influences in the home. Music was part of celebrating the greatest moments of life and served as an outlet for self expression. Yohimbe, self-taught, started playing guitar as a teen and honed his skills studying the instrument and playing with various bands, one being Rap/Rock band Game Rebellion. Bradley, writing since the age of 12, has penned everything from short stories to poetry. He started singing as a teen in his mother's church choir. "I was introduced to many different genres and I always paid attention to the vocalist."?
After crossing paths several times while living in the Bedstuy section of Brooklyn, it all came to head at a party where Yohimbe grabbed a guitar and nobody would sing. Brad stood up, they started rocking and haven't stopped. The band has been featured on Metro NY, MTV Iggy and The Deli Magazine to name a few, and are no strangers to the stage having played Knitting Factory, SOBs, Public Assembly, Ella Lounge, Arlene's Grocery and various other music venues in and around New York City.
Atlantic defies genre with influences of rock, soul, world and electronic music. A masterful fusion of Bradley's powerhouse vocals with Yohimbe's feverish guitar, songs touch on trial, optimism love and sex. Says MTV Iggy, "With their trippy, soulful, rock grooves that bang across cascading, sensual rhythms, it's hard not to fall in love with Meridian's do or die style. It's Afropunk; it's rudeboy-with-a-heart. It's the kind of infectious, shape-shifting music that doesn't fit all, but goes so hard that you simply can't ignore it."
With a career spanning multiple genres, labels, and even continents, Joseph King’s music defines a decade-long journey of reckless discovery. The prolific songwriter steps into the limelight with his unique 60's surf rock meets modern indie sound, and his debut solo album, "Wanderlusting" (March 2014, RockArmy Records).
