About Masterworks Festival Chorus: Haydn's "Paukenmesse"

Manhattan Concert Productions Presents Haydn's "Paukenmesse" at Carnegie Hall

The Masterworks Festival Chorus and soloists, led by Grammy Award-winning conductor Jerry Blackstone and accompanied by New York City Chamber Orchestra, bring the stirring sounds of Haydn's "Missa in tempore belli (Mass in the Time of War)" to the world-famous Carnegie Hall. Composed in 1796, while Austrian troops were engaged with the French, the mass is better known by the name "Paukenmesse", for its heart-pounding use of the timpani ("pauken") drum. This program also features the National Festival Chorus performing an array of exuberant and moving choral works, including Handel's "Sing Unto God," Stroope's "Consecrate the Place and Day" and Durham's "On Jordan's Stormy Banks," led by guest conductor and composer Dr. Z. Randall Stroope.
