About Marlain
Marlain’s background encompasses cultural references from all the countries she’s lived in: Venezuela, Belgium, Cyprus, the US, the UK and Greece. Only a very restless mind can produce an education that takes you from a Biochemistry degree to Musical Theatre studies in some of the most prestigious schools in the world (Royal Academy of Music, London and the Boston Conservatory). So what next? You get chosen among 5,000 hopefuls to perform at the Edinburgh Festival with the respected National Youth Music Theatre, you represent Cyprus at the Eurovision Song Contest and you tour the UK and Europe with a number of productions culminating with a performance at La Scala in Milan in front of 11,000 people. Are you happy with that? Not quite, so the journey continues with performances from the US (Berkelee Performance Centre) to Europe (Festival Rose D’Or – France, Switzerland and Ireland) and back on home turf with the Cyprus State Orchestra. The next step takes you into the belly of the beast with a major record deal (Warner Music Greece) and 3 albums (1 platinum and 1 gold) with pop act HI-5 produced from the internationally known POPSTARS programme.
The last few years have focused all that energy and musical performance experience and have seen Marlain perform all over Europe, Australia and South Africa with mainstay Greek artists like Vassili Papakonstantinou and Michalis Hadzigiannis (Greece’s top selling artist). As her own songwriting has come into its own, she has picked up a Best Song award at the Pan Music Festival in Serbia and has been nominated as Woman of the Year at the Madame Figaro Awards (established women’s title in Greece).
Marlain has also now established herself as a hard rock band frontperson working with various professional rock bands in the search for her final resting place. One of those bands Enteric, a London based hard melodic rock band with progressive elements (influences including Karnivool, Killswitch Engage, 30 Seconds to Mars, Tool) enjoyed local success before its breakup in Sept 2012. Besides this, she enjoys session work on voice-over translations including work on Disney, Dreamworks, Mattel cartoons, singer/songwriter projects involving alternative, jazz and soul-pop sounds and soundtrack projects involving light classical, legit sounding vocals.
