About Mammal, Threats, Iron Force, Throaat, Syphilitic Lust

n a world where tabloids line our streets, weird blogs hold influence, and people look to musicians the It crowd for social and fashion cues… Well, we find ourselves constantly annoyed. And, we're fucking sick of those who are so easily susceptible to "cool worshipping." Then someone threatens (pun!) this entire idea, and things get interesting. So we're introducing you to Threats, an NYC-based trio refreshing the meaning of being a hyped up, trendy band.

We know what you're thinking… Who are these dudes? Why are they so good looking? And, why are they all over the downtown scene, yet have zero online presence? How have they avoided the categorization brought about with new media and press? Jack Ridley, the band's charismatic frontman, and Matt Hitt, the bassist, both play in another band — Drowners. The lineup in Drowners flips each musician's role and offers significantly more of media presence than the elusive Threats, a band featuring Paulo Dell'Olio on drums. The music is barroom-basement Rock n' Roll with very subtle psychobilly-surf elements thrown in for good, accidental measure. The music feels like a natural conglomeration of influences, tastes and surroundings, and it's unpretentiousness enough for the downtown scene where people appreciate something different.

When Threats decides to play a show, you might not hear about it until a couple days prior. There is no music available online and — until now — nothing was ever recorded. Johnny T of Glassine Box (the online art store featuring a number of great NYC artists like Arturo Vega and Adam Green) has recently recorded a Threats album with producer Gus Oberg (also of the latest Strokes' album).
