About Magic City | Boys Noize/ Trina/ Jubilee/ Nadastrom/ Venus X/ Busy P/ Boston Bun/ Star Eyes

Alex Ridha (aka Boys Noize) was first known for his influential work as a producer and remixer for Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Santigold, Scissor Sisters and Feist. Voted by Rolling Stone as one of the top 10 "DJs Who Rule The Earth," in 2012, Boys Noize has since toured the world, released three full-length albums and has collaborated with artists like Snoop Dogg, Skrillex, and Erol Alkan. "I don´t compromise when it comes to music," says Ridha. "I do what I think is cool and what I like and not what the market wants or people may expect. Maintaining artistic freedom has always been the most important thing to me; for my own music and for anyone on my label."

Miami native Katrina Taylor better known as Trina debuted in 1998 on Slip-N-Slide label mate Trick Daddy's "Nann," and quickly became a household name in Hip-Hop. With female rappers from the South not making much noise back then, Trina earned national attention. Adding a Southern twist to the explicit style that rappers like Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown had blown up off; Trina easily became the queen of the South.

Though now splitting her time between Miami and Brooklyn, XLR8R’s “artist to watch” Jubilee will always be Brooklyn’s bass sweetheart. Known for her rambunctious combination of upfront bass music, UK house, and tropical flavors, she has become a surefire remedy for ailing dancefloors around the globe.

Co-opting her name from the X-Men character who shot fireworks out of her hands, Jubilee works similar magic when she steps into the DJ booth.?? But she’s also simply Jess, the one-time South Florida raver who grew up obsessively listening to Miami bass on the radio and dancing the night away at underground breaks parties. After making the move to NYC, she quickly infiltrated the DJ circuit and began turning heads with her knowledge of all things bass.

It’s the sweet mix of underground bass and tropical vibes that brings Jubilee from clubs and warehouse parties to the comfort of your own home. Her radio show Fireworks, on both Brooklyn Radio and Electric Soundstage (iHeartRadio’s new electronic station), continuously features fellow global producers such as Sinden, Bok Bok, Mike Q, and Star Eyes. Prior to Fireworks, she has DJed on East Village Radio and put together well received guest mixes for “The Mix Up” on Australia’s Triple J Radio and XLR8R Magazine’s esteemed podcast series.

When the beat drops at a Nadastrom show, you better have your hands up. Dave Nada is known to stage dive while his DJ partner Matt Nordstrom squeezes the duo's most riotous beats through the speakers. It's a reminder Nadastrom aren't just pushing 21st century dance music toward the edge – they're jumping off it.
The D.C.-born, L.A.-based duo of DJ-producers come from different backgrounds, but share a ravenous appetite for extremes. As the prime architects of Moombahton – a sound Nada invented on the fly at a basement party by slowing Dutch house music down to the tempo of reggaeton – the duo have been praised in the pages of Spin and Rolling Stone, pumped on the airwaves of BBC Radio 1 and NPR, and revered at nightclubs and festivals across the planet.
Nada was born in Maryland, a first generation Ecuadorian-American surrounded by five brothers and the sounds of cumbia, Ecuadorian folk, salsa, merengue and reggaeton. As a teen, he gravitated toward Washington's legendary hardcore punk scene, playing in bands while learning to DJ on college radio. A move to Baltimore landed Nada in the second surge of Baltimore club music, where he DJed alongside club icons K-Swift, Rod Lee and DJ Technics, while producing acclaimed club tracks of his own.
Nordstrom grew up in Virginia on the other side of the Washington beltway where skateboarding provided a contact point with punk, metal and hip-hop. In the late '90s, he swapped the skateboard for turntables and switched his college major from psychology to audio engineering. Soon, Nordstrom was the resident engineer for esteemed D.C. house heroes Deep Dish and piloting recording sessions with the likes of Stevie Nicks and P. Diddy, even scoring a Grammy nod along the way.
When Nada and Nordstrom came together in 2007, the chemistry was instant and the music was colossal. The group signed to Switch's Dubsided label where their debut debut EP, "Pussy," immediately topped the charts on Beatport. Since then, Nadastrom have produced tracks for a slew of artists, including Kid Sister, and have done remixes for Kid Cudi, Benny Benassi, Christina Aguilera, Waka Flocka Flame, the Death Set and Alex Clare.
In 2010, the duo relocated from Washington to Los Angeles and hit the road, performing at the biggest festivals in dance music, including Australia's Creamfields festival with Deadmau5, the Disco Biscuits' Camp Bisco festival, Bass Island with Bassnectar, the Mad Decent Block Party with Major Lazer and the HARD Festival in Los Angeles with Ducksauce, Chromeo, BoysNoize and Odd Future. This fall, Nadastrom joins Skrillex and 12th Planet for more than 50 nights on the hotly anticipated Mothership Tour.
Meantime, Moombahton has become a movement of its own, with Nadastrom serving as the genre's leading ambassadors. Diplo's Mad Decent label dropped the acclaimed compilation "Dave Nada presents Blow Your Head Vol. 2: Moombahton" in May and Scion released Nadastrom's Moombahton EP "El Baile Diabluma" this fall.
"There are never any rules," says Nada of the duo's approach. "And Moombahton helped us realize that even more."

NYC party maven, GHE20G0TH1K founder, Venus X, who always delights with her impeccable taste and party acumen, we're super stoked for this night of hard-partying taste-makers.

"French electro DJ/producer Pedro Winter (aka Busy P) is the owner of Ed Banger Records as well as the manager of Daft Punk and a few other electronic dance acts from France. Born Pierre Winter in 1975 in Paris, he became interested in electronic dance music around 1992 and not long thereafter began spinning at clubs and planning parties. As he became increasingly involved with the underground electronic dance music community in Paris, Winter became acquainted with many of the scene's key participants, including David Guetta, DJ Cam, Dimitri from Paris, and Daft Punk. The latter he met in 1996, when he was a law student; the soon-to-be-famous duo asked him to be their manager and he obliged. In the wake of Daft Punk's world-wide success, Winter founded the management company Headbangers Entertainment in 2002 and assumed management duties for other French electronic dance acts such as Cassius, DJ Mehdi, Cosmo Vitelli, and Thomas Winter et Bogue. In 2003 he founded Ed Banger Records, which released music by up-and-coming French electro artists such as Justice, Mr. Flash, Vicarious Bliss, Krazy Baldhead, SebastiAn, Uffie, DJ Mehdi, and others. Shortly after founding Ed Banger Records, Winter began producing tracks of his own under the Busy P moniker, beginning in 2004 with the Limit Ed 12" single featuring the tracks "Colette C'est Chouette" and "Bearbrickdance," and began employing his remixing ability as well. However, despite some occasional releases on Arcade Mode (e.g., "Chop Suey," 2005), his production work was sporadic; for instance, he didn't get around to releasing another Busy P 12" on Ed Banger until Rainbow Man in 2007. He remained busy, though, especially after the breakthrough success of Justice -- and, by association, the Ed Banger brand -- in 2007 with "D.A.N.C.E."" - Jason Birchmeier, AllMusicGuide

Fascinated by the 90's Chicago illusion and 120 bpm tracks talking about pleasure and future, Boston Bun offers up his own vision of House Music. Steering clear of cliches and parodies, he's simply creating a new universe, a new story for this genre.
Boston Bun's first official remix came out in early 2012, on the Sound Pellegrino label. Bun transformed the Maelstrom 'HOUSE MUSIC' into a sexy sweaty backroom acid dance joint. The remix totally transcended all genres, and was played as much by Crookers as by Etienne Jaumet. At which point his talent as a remixer has been solicited by the likes of Myd, The Aikiu, Breakbot and Logo, among others.

That is until one of his remixes made it's way to Pedro 'Busy P' Winter. The two decided to share a studio together, so they could experiment new sounds, talk about music and collaborate on the daily. During one of their sessions together Boston Bun made Pedro listen to his new demo, 'HOUSECALL' which quickly became the 66th release for Ed Banger Records. The EP breathes new life into the label slated to celebrate it's 10th anniversary in 2013. 'HOUSECALL' is currently played and supported by Tiga, Brodinski, A-Trak, Duke Dumont, Erol Alkan, Daniel Avery, Laurent Garnier, and Surkin to name a few.

The first time Star Eyes touched a turntable was at the age of 15, when she decided she wanted to take up Djing. Sick of listening to rave DJ's with bad taste in breakbeats, she began buying jungle with the intention of playing to her bedroom walls. After giving out tapes to her friends and having her mixes featured on L.A.'s Underground Source info line, friends began asking her to play out at local jungle events. At that time, she was the only female junglist playing out in the Los Angeles area. In 1995, Star Eyes moved to the Bay Area to attend UC Berkeley. Star Eyes' name would soon become synonymous with the San Francisco jungle sound. Founding the B.A.S.S. Kru with original members DJ Abstract, Flux, and Hak from San Jose, she helped throw a series of weekly clubs and one-offs (Bass Instinct, Audio Impact, etc.) that would establish S.F. as a hotbed for drum and bass to this day. Star Eyes also released Ruffage during this time, a tape which has passed through ravers hands from the West to East Coast and back again.

For the last six years, 22-year old Star Eyes has been an integral figure in West Coast drum and bass. With her skillful mixing, diverse track selection, and her ear for what works the crowd, she is known for tearing up dancefloors worldwide. She is one of the original residents (alongside Sage) of San Francisco's most popular and longest running drum and bass night, Eklektic, where she has played alongside UK favorites such as Storm and Bailey, John B, Fierce, and Technical Itch. Eklektic has been featured in Details, Playboy and Urb (among other magazines), as well as being named "Best Drum and Bass" club in San Francisco by the Bay Guardian. An avid traveler, Star Eyes has played internationally as well. Her overseas gigs include playing London's long-running Movement night (residents are Bryan G, JJ Frost, and Ray Keith), the Rachdingue club in Barcelona (Spain), the Bikini in Toulouse (France), and O.P.A. and Radio Nova in Paris, France. Stateside, she has rocked it from East to West. On the East, Star Eyes was a resident at Jungle Roots in Boston, and played in New York (Konkrete Jungle, Jungle Nation, Camoflauge), Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Miami. In the West, she is a resident with Dynamo productions in Seattle, and has played in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Portland, Salt Lake City. The Midwest loves Star Eyes as well: Chicago, Columbus, Minneapolis and Madison, as well as filling in for absentee headliners Trace and Ed Rush at the infamous Further rave in 1997. She has played alongside such heavy hitters as DJ SS, DJ Rap, DJ Dazee, Jumping Jack Frost, Storm & Bailey, Stakka & Skynet, Storm & Bailey, John B, Perfect Combination, Dieselboy, Dara, Rob Playford and many more. Star Eyes has been featured in Urb Magazine, Option, Xlr8r, Massive and Bean Magazine. You may have also seen Star Eyes' name in print – when she's not DJ'ing, Star Eyes (Viviann Host) is Editor for the San Francisco edition of Flyer Magazine and writes for dance music magazines nationwide.
