About Lionel

Lionel. One name. Like God. He takes the stage and performs (out)spoken word as an art form. But this is not standup. About Lionel, legendary record producer Jerry Wexler wrote, “He wears the mantle of Lenny Bruce, with Lenny’s own tropisms.” And no higher praise exists. The world is absurd and Lionel is its resident absurdist. Equipped with a black belt in realpolitik and surgical issue dissection, the political atheist savages idiocy without losing his humor footing. Where do his subjects of discussion derive from? Everywhere. TV, life, news, the street – the world. But this isn’t a TED or Big Think lecture, though it could be. It’s a brief respite from the world with a musical flair. Lionel’s a raconteur, a professional contrarian and a passionate absorber and commentator on the real world. He’s an Emmy-award winning TV news decoder and legal analyst, a trial lawyer and former prosecutor, an author and essayist, talk radio veteran and podcasting pioneer. He’s a bluegrass musician and born-again flatpicker, who, along with his musical guru, Bob Harris (who happens to have taken first place in Guitar Player International's Ultimate Guitar Competition) will throw in to the entertainment vector a political ditty or stringed opus as the mood hits him. Sui generis and nonpareil. One of a kind and without description or label, it’s just Lionel. One name. Like God.
