About Leah Rich

Leah Rich is an internationally acclaimed performance artist, whose vocal and piano playing abilities span all the way from classical music, to jazz, soul, and pop. This versatile performer has the ability to bridge gaps between genres, synthesizing her unique, urban style of music.

Although Leah often uses her vocal and piano playing skills in tandem, she is a noteworthy performer on each of her instruments in their own right. Born into a family of successful musicians, Leah’s official piano training began when she was just four years old. Studying with renowned classical pianist, Julia Zilberquit, Leah eventually reached heights of playing at Merkin Concert Hall, DiCapo Opera Theatre, and Carnegie Hall. Her classical training continued throughout her childhood and well into adolescence; it was at this point that Leah began integrating her classical technique with more current music.

Indeed, throughout her years of study Leah has learned to merge old school sounds with a modern twist; this is particularly true of her singing. Although Leah’s official vocal training began at the age of thirteen, she spent her childhood singing regularly with her parents at various events, learning not only how to use her voice, but also how to be an effective performer. Leah continued honing these skills in her vocals studies at The Juilliard School (Pre-College Division). Leah is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music, specializing in Jazz Composition.

Leah has studied classical, jazz, and contemporary voice under the tutelage of some of the industry's most prestigious and respected coaches, including: Maggie Scott (The Juilliard School, Boston Pops Orchestra), Jodi Jenkins (Vox One), Armsted Christian (Berklee College of Music, New England Conservtory of Music), Ned Rosenblatt (Boston Conservatory, Berklee College of Music), and many others.

With her extensive training and love of both solo and group singing, Leah has received various opportunities to perform at prestigious events, including The Newport Folk Festival, Boston’s “Outside the Box” Festival, “Morning Star in America” New York International Performing Arts Competition, and countless others. Most recently, Leah traveled to Cape Verde, Africa, to perform with jazz group Cluttered Clarity at the 2015 Atlantic Music Expo.

Throughout the years, Leah’s musical interests have evolved from simply performing others’ music to creating music of her own. At the age of sixteen, Leah was chosen out of hundreds of New York City applicants to be awarded the distinction of Best Composition at the Grammy in the Schools Songwriting Expo. Since then, she’s been composing jazz, funk, R&B, and pop tunes both solo and in collaboration with other artists.

Leah’s artistry and adaptability make her a universal musician, capable of carrying her talents over into various fields of the music industry. She loves collaborating with other talented musicians, and feeds off of the energy of her peers and audiences. Indeed, sharing music is Leah’s greatest ambition, be it through performance, composition, arranging, or teaching.
