About Large Professor, Marley Marl
Large Professor (LP) is a Hip Hop songwriter, producer, and DJ hailing from Flushing, Queens, NY. As head of ‘90s rap group Main Source, LP quickly took the airwaves by storm with conceptual songs and creative sampling techniques. As a “Hip Hopper from Birth,” LP blended the rawness of early B-Boy sounds with Jazz, Folk & Blues, creating a unique style that everyone loves. As a producer, he has worked beside some of the best lyricists in the game, and is the mastermind behind the song “Live At The Barbecue,” which introduced the world to Nas. A record collector since the early ‘80s, LP’s music knowledge is vast, garnering his DJ sets high praise from peers and fans alike. His involvement in numerous certified gold and platinum albums, movie soundtracks, and television shows makes LP an “Official Hip Hop Music Aficionado.”
Famous for representing the rap Mecca known as Queensbridge, and for introducing hip hop producers to the innovative craft of sampling, Marley Marl, born Marlon Williams, appeared at the forefront of many of hip hop’s most important moments and movements. He rocked alongside Mr. Magic on “Rap Attack,” co-founded the legendary Juice Crew, battled KRS-One and BDP in the infamous Bridge Wars, produced LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out,” broke new talent on Future Flavas, and even inspired the late great Notorious BIG – to name a few. Marley’s discography is extensive, with classics including “Around the Way Girl,” “Eric B For President,” “Nobody Beats the Biz,” and “The Symphony,” among hundreds of other trendsetting compositions. Marley Marl has received numerous awards for his chart successes, including a 1992 GRAMMY Award for LL Cool J’s Best Solo Rap Performance. He has also been recognized as a living legend in hip hop, receiving the Legendary DJ Award at the 2013 Global Spin Awards. Marley Marl can be heard on New York’s mega station WBLS 107.5 FM, every Friday night between 8pm to 10pm.
