Lafawndah

Born in Tehran and raised in Paris, the singer LAFAWNDAH cut her musical teeth as a member of Nidada, an all-girl group she founded with friends in Mexico City in 2011. She has only been performing solo since late 2012 (including stints during Art Basel Miami Beach and at Glenn O'Brien's recent TV Party revival) but word has already caught on and a few weeks ago LAFAWNDAH was invited to perform for the first time in Los Angeles. At Nacho Nava's Mustache Monday party she seduced the crowd with her trance-like stage persona, danceable pop beats, and multilingual lyrics (English, Farsi, French, and Swahili). But when asked to describe the musical style herself, the tranny-haired, tomboyish beauty deadpans: "I really don't have a clue." Some of that night's guests were more outspoken using words like "quixotic", "animal", "free", "gender-fluid", "sincere", and "thumping". But American Apparel's creative director, Iris Alonzo summed it up best "LAFAWDAH's music is like good sex: the perfect balance between sweet and rough."
