About "La Belle: Lost In The World Of The Automaton"

A Whimsical Steampunk "Beauty & the Beast"

For the first time in more than 35 years, the acclaimed Imago Theater has created a new fairy-tale experience for audiences of all ages. Set aboard a steamship circa 1920, "La Belle, Lost in the World of the Automaton" is the unlikely love story of Sam, the ship's coal stoker, and Rose, one of the passengers, who discovers that he's constructed the "Beauty and the Beast" story in the world of the automata (figurines brought to life by the ingenuity of clockwork mechanics) below deck. They become friends, beautifully melding the real and fantasy worlds while playing the characters, and beyond their control they fall in love. Like a giant toy, the physical set is a kinetic and animated environment from which more than one hundred effects, puppets and more emerge to tell this magical tale. This steampunk-infused show at the Lehman Center in the Bronx is great for everyone 4 and older.
