About Just Blaze, DJ Ayres, DJ Eleven, Lauren Flax, Lindsey
Just Blaze worked closely with Roc-a-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing hits like Cam'ron's "Oh Boy," Jay-Z's "Girls, Girls, Girls," and Beanie Sigel and Freeway's "Rock the Mic." He worked closely with Roc-a-Fella's other in-house producer, Kanye West, on the label's many albums released during this same period. And like West, he developed a trademark knack for using old-school soul samples in unique ways for his hooks. Besides the Roc-a-Fella stable of rappers, Just Blaze also produced tracks for big-name East Coast rappers such as Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, DMX, and Fabolous. By the turn of the century, he'd become one of the rap industry's leading producers, along with Timbaland, the Neptunes, and Swizz Beatz.
DJ Ayres is your favorite DJ's third favorite DJ.
The Village Voice called DJ Ayres and DJ Eleven's monthly Brooklyn party, The
Rub, "the best party to dance sweatily to smart music." And the New York Times called Ayres "One of New York's best mixtape DJs." That was almost ten years ago but DJ Ayres still won't shut up about it.
One time Aziz Ansari logged in the guestbook at a radio station right before DJ Ayres.
DJ Ayres claims to have shared bills with Gucci Mane, Diplo, Justice, LCD Soundsystem, and The Chemical Brothers. It's certainly plausible but nobody knows for sure.
He definitely went on tours with ATrak, Ghostface and Bun B though.
In Atlanta, opening for Ghostface, DJ Ayres was booed for playing the instrumental of Kia Kinfolk Shine "Krispy." What was that all about?
Ayres grew up in rural Mississippi but is quick to point out that he had plenty of black friends.
DJ Ayres makes music and releases it on his T&A record label, with his friend Tittsworth.
Spike Lee once asked DJ Ayres to stop using his likeness on The Rub's promotional materials. The email appeared to be dictated and was signed
"SPIZZIKE."
DJ Ayres has played parties at the Guggenheim, the Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum of Art and the Museum of Sex (twice!).
Originally hailing from Oakland, CA, DJ Eleven is one of the founders of infamous Brooklyn-based DJ crew The Rub, which was named the "Best DJ Collective in New York" by Spin Magazine. Since debuting in 2002, The Rub has been dubbed NYC's "Best Party" by New York Magazine, The Village Voice and New York Press. Along with The Rub, Eleven was nominated as America's Best DJ by DJ Times' in 2010.
In addition to traveling the world playing gigs in clubs from Moscow to Buenos Aires, Eleven has toured extensively with artists like Pharoahe Monch and Goapele. Within the United States, Eleven has served as the official tour DJ for rapper Too $hort, Scion Metro Live, and the Nike Battleground Tour. He also regularly DJs private parties, with a long list of high profile clients like Scarlett Johansen, Playboy, Scion, and GQ.
In 2009, Eleven launched 11 Inch Records, a record label dedicated to releasing great hip hop & dance music. Releases have been featured on projects by DJs as diverse as MJ Cole & Mick Boogie, as well as receiving "new & noteworthy" attention from online retailers iTunes & Turntable Lab.
Over the course of his almost 20 year career, Eleven has spun alongside Mark Ronson, The Chemical Brothers, ?uestlove, and DJ Premier, to name just a few. With countless mixtapes to his credit, Eleven's expert mixes have been praised in publications from The New York Times and The Fader to The SF Weekly and The Boston Phoenix. An extensive list of DJ Eleven's press clips, mixes, upcoming events, and discography can be found at www.djeleven.com.
