About Jojo Mayer & NERVE
In a era when a barren pop music culture appears doomed to
perpetually recycle the 20th century, and when pressing "> play"
while throwing a fist in the air qualifies as a performance, NERVE
has set out on a mission: to recalibrate our perception and
reinstate our imperiled ability to discern between whats real and
whats not. NERVE aims for an authentic 21st century expression
that reclaims musical performance as a culturally informed art
form.
NERVE evolved out of Jojo Mayer’s legendary party event,
“Prohibited Beatz”, in NYC. Initially a platform for experimental
interaction between DJ culture and live music, this collective
eventually developed into a finely tuned group that crosspollinated
the premeditated format of programmed electronic music with real
time musical performance.
NERVE ultimately brings the early jazz tradition of improvisation,
innovation, authentic expression and stylistic evolution to the digital
age.
NERVE reexamines and transcends the relationship between
human creativity and digital technology, and has created a new
form of musical expression which is completely unique in the world
today. At the heart of the group is their explosive and high energy
live show, which has earned them an extremely loyal international
fan base. NERVE sounds like electronic music, but it’s not. It
doesn’t sound like jazz or rock, but it is.
NERVE operates completely independently, has produced and
released 4 LP's and 5 EP’s, and has toured the USA, South
America, Europe and Asia.
NERVE is:
JOJO MAYER, Drums
Jojo started playing drums at an early age and had his first public
performance at 2, sitting in with his dad’s band. His seminal work
with NERVE established him as one of the great performers and
innovators on the instrument. Jojo's concepts and techniques
of reverse engineering electronic drumbeats in real time on a
acoustic drum set introduced a new paradigm and opened the door
for an entire generation of musicians to follow. In 2014, the
prestigious Modern Drummer Magazine poll listed him as one of
the 50 Greatest Drummers of All Time.
JOHN DAVIS, Bass & Low End Manipulation
Jojo’s longtime partner in crime and counterpart in NERVE, John
is the foremost proponent of synthesized electric bass culture
today. With his experience as a multifaceted bass player and vast
technical expertise as one of New York’s busiest recording and
mixing engineers, John has pushed the envelope in emulating
programmed synth bass lines from his bass guitar and pedalboard
like no other bass player.
JACOB BERGSON, Keys & Synths
Jacob initially started to work with NERVE as a recording engineer
for the “The Distance between Zero and One” sessions in 2010. In
2014 he joined the group as a full time keyboardist, compose, and
engineer. His broad stylistic experience which ranges from
electronic music to pop and jazz and his skills with synthesis make
him the perfect collaborator and a distinctive new voice in NERVE.
AARON NEVEZIE, Sound and Realtime Audio Deconstruction
Stepping up into NERVE’s proprietary Real Time Audio
Deconstruction concept, Aaron interacts with and manipulates the
band’s sonic output during live performances, turning the sounddesk into a musical instrument by supplying, in real time, many ofthe textures usually created in post production. Coowner of TheBunker Studio, he brings years of studiohoned engineering skills and techniques to the band, stretching the boundaries of live sound and concert experience.
