About Jesse Macht

Interlaced in singer-songwriter Jesse Macht’s melodies are an abundance of stories overflowing with passion, vulnerability, empathy and honesty. His live concert experience, a mix of an exciting, provocative, and unorthodox explaining of those stories, intertwined with song reflections of those experiences, is influenced by those who Macht cherishes the songwriting tradition of: Jeff Buckley, Dan Wilson, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, Ryan Adams, Neil Young, and John Prine.

On September 23rd, 2014, the Los Angeles born and raised artist independently released his sophomore album, Suitcase Heart, produced by Nashville’s Justin “Uncle” Tockett (Marc Broussard). The album explores the idea that we carry our hearts full of our life story, and the joy and frustrations of with whom to share the value of those stories, the morality, and how to productively move forward with them.

Suitcase Heart was recorded at both Dockside Studios in Lafayette, LA and Zac Brown Band’s Southern Ground Studios in Nashville, TN. The recording process proved to be a cathartic one for Jesse. Over a year ago, he learned that he had an extra electric impulse in his heart that would turn on when his adrenaline would pump, such as performing live which would send his heart pumping to 260 beats per minute. A heart procedure fixed the problem, and six weeks later he went through an unexpected breakup. “Both my physical and figurative heart had been injured within a few weeks of each other,” he says. Abruptly faced with his mortality and a raw unknowing loss of direction, Jesse says, “Suitcase Heart was my way of acknowledging the fear of the unknown, and pushing forward anyway, with my heart and stories in tow.”

Suitcase Heart follows Jesse Macht’s 2012 debut, Acts of Providence, which validated his switch to a solo career after leaving LA pop act, Burn Down the Mission. Since then his music has been placed in TV, web, and film including The Voice, NY Ink, Keeping up with The Kardashians, Giuliana and Bill and other E! and MTV programming, as well as independent films such as James Franco’s Good Time Max and Kevin Nealon’s And They’re Off.
