About Jane Lee Hooker, Sweet Tits, Greg Allen's Fringe Religion, Cash Registers

"Jane Lee Hooker is a band of five women from New York City who take traditional blues on a fast and rough ride.

The band's calling cards are songs by Muddy Waters, Ray Charles, Howlin' Wolf, Johnny Winter and, of course, John Lee Hooker - all fed through double lead guitars, a heavy rhythm section, and soul-scouring vocals.

These women are by no means new to the game. Between the five band members, they have decades of experience playing, recording and touring both nationally and internationally. Individually, the members of Jane Lee Hooker have played for thousands of fans while sharing bills with the likes of Motorhead, MC5, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Deep Purple, among others. And they've played more club gigs in more cities than even they can believe.

So how'd this gang of pros finally find each other?

Guitarists Tracy and Tina honed their mutual love of blazing dual leads during their time together in Helldorado in the 90s. From there, Tracy joined Nashville Pussy, Tina joined Bad Wizard, and both women toured the world. But when their time with those bands ended, they realized they really missed the rush of trading guitar solos with each other and leaving audiences howling with joy and disbelief.

But first they needed a band.

They quickly recruited Mary, who played bass with Tracy in the early 90s punk band the Wives. Melissa sat behind the drum kit and got the nod before she even finished slamming out the first song of her audition. And no singer in the entire city can bring a crowd to its knees harder or faster than Dana Danger Athens.

The band is a loud, blistering blues monster capable of whispering in your ear before stomping on your heart.

Are you ready? It's time to get a load of Jane Lee Hooker."

Sweet Tits is the lesbo spinal tap. With Lola Rocknrolla, Sandee Candee, Sarah Michaels, Alicia Godsberg and Kiki Barrera!

In the early 80s Greg Allen played with Blue Ruin of Providence, RI. They recorded a 45 single produced by Billy Rath (bass player Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers) and appeared in the "City History/Live at the Livingroom, Providence, RI" album.

Greg moved to London via NYC and formed the Vulture Squadron. He toured the UK with Two Saints. Back in New York in the early 90s Greg formed a group with Jerry Nolan, ex-New York Doll and Chicago Vin Earnshaw, ex-Delinquents. This group's recordings will be released soon.

In New York Greg formed the Jigsaw Men and later Greg Allen Group. The Greg Allen Group recorded the albums "Just For You" with Johnny Rao, ex-David Johanson/Helen Schnieder and the Kick and "Let's Pretend" produced by Nite Bob of New York Dolls, Aerosmith, Iggy and the Stooges fame.

Greg is currently in Boston finishing an album with Johnny Rao (engineered by Paul Kolderie and Ivan Julian. ) After a brief stretch as lead guitar for the Port Charles Quintet, Greg re-formed Greg Allen's Fringe Religion with Curt Florczak, Chicago Vin Earnshaw and Chris Michaels.

Cash Registers mastermind John Bendik hails from a small Pennsylvania town outside of Pittsburgh. John began his musical life in high school as a hardcore drummer. He was already a veteran of two Pittsburgh bands (Poisoning & Savage Amused) at seventeen.

John’s bands had a brief existence, but left a lasting impression on the East Coast hardcore scene. Mind Cure Records recently released Savage Amused’s first album-length demo on vinyl to great acclaim.

After moving to New York City in the early Nineties, John formed the Cash Registers. The band played a melodic-frenetic style of punk & garage rock. John’s songs ranged from the urban squalor of “Crack House” to the bittersweet love song “All In The Past.”

Cash Registers played hundreds of shows in and around the East Coast, including a dozen or more at CBGB. They shared bills with underground stars like The Oblivians, The Humpers, Gas Huffer, The Lunachicks and many more.

Cash Registers released two E.P’s and recorded countless compilation tracks for Flipside, Go-Kart, Intensive Scare and more before splitting around 2000.

John recently remastered eighteen of the band’s original recordings for the full-length album “Context Demos” released on Million Dollar Records. The album is available now for download.

John also assembled a new version of the band in 2014 with old friends Mark (Wig Hat, Viva La Wattage) on bass and vocals and Rick (Our American Cousins, Ff) on drums. The band is back playing shows around the East Coast & recording and writing new songs.
