About Jamie XX / Nocturnal Sunshine [Maya Jane Coles] US Debut / Andhim / Matador
The beat-maker and knob shaker from The XX. Also a prolific remix artist and producer.
By the age of 24, Maya had already played in over 30 countries racking up gigs at the likes of Panorama Bar (Berlin), Womb (Tokyo), Fabric (London), Trouw (Amsterdam), WHP (Manchester), Spy Bar (Chicago), Watergate (Berlin), Home (Sydney), Verboten (NYC), Zouk (Singapore), Lux (Lisbon), Fuse (Belgium) and Social Club (Paris). Not to mention taking control of the decks at Ibiza’s most renowned clubs Space, Pacha, Amnesia, and Ushuaia.
In April 2012, Maya’s position as one of the world’s top DJs was solidified with the release of her multi-award winning edition to K7’s legendary DJ Kicks mix series which gained international chart success and massive critical praise.
Maya released the tracks ‘Not Listening’ as Maya Jane Coles and ‘Meant to Be’ under Maya’s ‘Nocturnal Sunshine’ moniker as exclusive tracks from the compilation. The mix also included tracks by the likes of Phil Kieran & White Noise Larse, Marcel Dettman and T.Williams and has proved to be one of the biggest commercial successes since the series began with the mix hitting the home pages of major sites such as Deezer, Aol Spinner and MTV Iggy.
Club smashes “Getting Freaky” on Heidi’s Jackathon Jams label and a return to her original label home Dogmatik with the release of “Watcher” followed later in the year as well as her Ushuaia set broadcasted live as part of BBC Radio 1’s famed Ibiza Weekend.
Maya’s final original release of 2012 was Maya’s much lauded genre defying release ‘Easier to Hide’ coming out her own I/AM/ME label in December hinting at what may be to come with the inclusion of album track “Easier to Hide” leading the EP.
With her debut album having dropped in July 2013 Maya will have played in around 40 countries worldwide by the end of year taking in festivals like Fuji Rocks (Japan), Coachella (USA), Sonar (Spain), Ultra (USA), Lowlands (Holland), T in the Park (UK), Pukkelpop (Belgium), Bestival (UK), Creamfields (UK) and Summadayze (Australia) amongst countless others all around the world. Having previously played at Les Transmusicales (France), Melt (Germany), Benicassim (Spain), Electric Zoo (USA), Global Gathering (UK), Detroit Movement (USA) and Exit (Croatia) amongst others.
It was spring 2010 when the Cologne natives decided to kick their butts and get out of their studio to show their beats to the world.
Less than 12 months later Andhim made it to the top ten German newcomers of the Groove and Raveline magazines (two of the most respected electronic music media in Germany and not only). Their records could be found in the cases of famous DJ's and remix requests followed from all over.
Their sound, which they self describe as "Super House" has become its very own genre built from their soul and passion. Andhim's unique sound, party proven and of reduced nature, is organic with an emphasis in the finer detail.
The boys grassroots flow from Hip-Hop, and they work mainly with samples which makes their tracks one of a kind. This individuality has earned them a home with Labels such as Monaberry, Terminal M or Sunset Handjob.
When performing live one can really feel the full commitment and passion of the boys. Energetic, creative and always entertaining, they present their very own interpretation of electronic dance music that makes dads cheer and mums scream. The boys are transforming the decks into instruments themselves to create an extended sphere of music, which separates them from the standard reproductive character of a DJ.
Their musical talent and knowledge of technique comes from their musical resume:
When other kids were playing at the pool eating French fries on their summer holidays, 16 year old Simon was scratching with several jazz-musicians through Europe. When he was 20 he became known as Simon² tempted to electronic music.
Similarly, but on different level, Tobias developed in the late 90's and early 2000's. As part of the Turntable-Crew "Noisy-Stylus" he became a multiple ITF- and DMC-Champion and influenced the Turntablism scene of the time with Noisy-Stylus in their own Battlebreakrecords and album "Table Manners".
The final chapter was at a Bavarian sausage-eating contest, facing each other in the final round covered from head to toe in sausage. They immediately knew what to do and founded the Boyband "Andhim". Just a logical progression!
After massive gigs through Europe and Asia, the boys continuously work on their sound and development in an effort to explore new worlds of sound. With strong support from many Artists and Labels of the scene they are looking forward to the future with optimism and are excited to make the people of the world dance, smile and go crazy!
The Matador Project was set up in December 2006 by Producer/Engineer/DJ "Gavin Lynch". This guise was simply intended for the writing & release of work created in the early hours…Nightworks, this time being when production is at its most natural for the 'Matador Sound'.
These early productions often went back and forth as they were road tested at various dj residencies in Dublin, '515@Tripod', 'Acii Disco', & the infamous 'Mixed Salad' parties. These nights & parties would pave the way, stimulate & energize this project & sound in a huge way for the years to come…..
Trained as a chef, sound engineer & MUSIC PRODUCER, Gavin has found his place comfortably in any creative environment, and takes great pride in the work & ethics involved. The journey into techno first began when listening to early dj compilations, 'Dave Clarkes World Service', 'Richie Hawtin's Decks Efx 909' and various others. These 2 particular mixes retained amazing tracklists & from listening to them over & over, whilst sourcing the singles on vinyl, production & engineering was the natural course to take. Understanding, educating, consuming, growing, with time & energy…
Having worked and experienced many studio environments, Gavin is now based in Dublin Ireland in his own production studio where, day to day, night to night, music is being created, drums processed, sound designed & tracks completed…
From the early success of his remix of 'Perc - Work Softer' which gained the support from top industry leaders, Gavin has gone on to a string of Releases & Remixes on some high end prints including; Trapez, Cocoon, 1605, Rekluse, Harthouse & many more…
More recently Gavin has been welcomed into the Minus family with a stellar remix of 'Bryan Zentz_D-Clash' on Plus 8, and his ever popular 'Kingswing Ep' on Minus. Both of these projects have been widely supported and have seen fantastic chart success.
Building on some solid production foundations & great live shows, this project CONTINUES to evolve & surprise with each week that passes…..keep watching…..
