James Jackson, Jr BIRTH: The 40th Anniversary Edition

BIRTH! One word. One half of soul-singing duo, The Black-Ups, performance artist James Jackson, Jr. is turning 40. What better way to celebrate than to round up the troupes and throw a legendary BIRTH Anniversary Party…40th-style, produced by the fabulous team at Damn The Light held at East Village lounge and concert venue DROM.



The Black-Ups, made up of Ladonna Burns (Rent Nat’l Tour, Seussical Nat’l Tour) & Mr. Jackson, have been regulars at DROM with their hilarious, soul-shaking, bad-ass “Variety Hour…& 1/2”. Paying homage to the classic variety shows of the 70s, they are what would happen if a modern-day Sonny & Cher had…a little more soul. Tonight they are here to celebrate the sass and wit of James as he turns another year older and “shows these kids how to do 40” like only he can.



The guests? Legendary acts from all over NYC. Produced by Damn The Light’s Mary Anne Piccolo and Mike Greco, the night will feature Bridget Barkan (Scissor Sisters, Dear Stranger, The Love Junkie, Danger Heart), Alexis Hightower (Girl Next Door), the cast of Michael R. Jackson’s “A Strange Loop”, Gavyn Taylor Pickens (The Curvy Cutie), and a few other surprise guests.
